First and foremost, I hope everyone has had a wonderful week! I love having the opportunity at the end of what can sometimes be a long week, to share a few thoughts or discuss events past with everyone. Reflecting on the week allows me time to clear my mind and put a few things into perspective. It does the soul some good.
“Without deep reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people.” Albert Einstein
That was a freebie 😉 You are welcome. Most weeks it can feel like there is little that has occurred. But then I am reminded that this is a blessing sometimes, and they can be the best weeks. This was one of those weeks. It was pretty quiet for the most part. I wanted to wrap-up by sharing my favorite quotes for the week with you, and then looking at 2016 Reading Challenges and TBRs for July. Oh, and I may have thrown a little bit about fandom in at the very end. My mind does wander.
The Shadow Queen:
“Her skin was as white as snow, her lips as red as blood, and her long hair as black as ebony.”
― C.J. Redwine,
“You don’t go into battle because you’re sure of victory. You go into battle because it’s the right thing to do.”
― C.J. Redwine,
“What could be worse than death?”
― C.J. Redwine,
Eight Hundred Grapes:
“Synchronization. Systems operating with all their parts in synchrony, said to be synchronous, or in sync. The interrelationship of things that might normally exist separately.”
“In physics: It’s called simultaneity. In music: rhythm.
In your life: epic failure.”
― Laura Dave,
“Thing is, either way we cut it, we shouldn’t test the people we love,” he said. “We do, but it’s shitty and ultimately, regardless of what they did or didn’t do, we’re the ones who feel like we failed.”
― Laura Dave,
“That is love, baby girl. Working hard when we don’t feel like it.”
― Laura Dave,
I was not able to complete as much reading this past week so the quotes that made the list are limited. I hit a bit of a funk between some insomnia and vertigo. I also decided to take time to “downgrade” my work space. Yes, you read that correctly. I was hoping that by reducing the overall size, I might reduce the overall clutter. Although, I have tried this with my handbag and always seem to fail. And by fail, what I really mean is fail miserably. If there were an award for clutter, I would own several. I am seriously a regular Mary Poppins. No matter how small the bag(or space) is, I will find a way to fit more inside. Honestly.
Well as with all things, time will tell. If your curious, here are my new, current surroundings. Of course, I have bookcases as well, but just a small peek (sorry for poor lighting, but as Portland does, it is raining). Give it a few more weeks and I am sure it will be covered in Pops and more books. For now, I like it. What you cannot see is that behind me, I have this amazing papasan chair. It really is my little nook of the room. I would love to see your spaces or nooks! I always enjoy seeing how others work and where they read. Please, by all means share!
I think one of the reasons I enjoy Goodreads.com so much, aside from the great community, is the annual reading challenge. I don’t know what it is, but I love setting this with each new year. I know I am not alone in this. Maybe it is the simple fact of having a challenge that is fun to tackle. My previous goal had to be revamped, as I am now at 50 books. This is not as impressive as it may seem to some (or maybe it doesn’t for some). I read a ton of manga at the beginning of the year. It has been a newly discovered joy of mine for so many reasons! Maybe we will talk about that soon. Any fans of manga or graphic novels?
Anyways, I have increased my goal to 70 books. We will see how this goes. Vertigo, play nice! What has your goal for 2016 been? Mine can vary each year. My reading habits tend to really fluctuate. I think this happens to the best of us. And well, there are other things in life.. !!!! Did she just say that? Yes, haha I did. Please feel free to add me on Goodreads 😉
My TBR list for July is not very long at the moment. I am feeling super indecisive, so I am cheating and keeping it short:
The best for last! I cannot say much about fandom that you do not already know. But here is what the fabulous and all-knowing wiki has to say:
Fandom is a term used to refer to a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of empathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. Fans typically are interested in even minor details of the object(s) of their fandom and spend a significant portion of their time and energy involved with their interest, often as a part of a social network with particular practices (a fandom); this is what differentiates “fannish” (fandom-affiliated) fans from those with only a casual interest.
I am a huge fan girl in regards to certain things. I for one, have a serious Doctor Who problem. Yes, I am a Whovian, and I am admitting it is a problem at times. I absolutely adore Tom Baker, the fourth Doctor and think David Tennant as Ten is the cutest thing since well, anything cute. But aside from obsessing over Doctors, it is a Sci-Fi thing as well. I believe time travel is amazing and cannot get enough of those quirky aliens. I mean Daleks and Cybermen!! Come on! Add the T.A.R.D.I.S. and a sonic screwdriver and presto! It was love at first viewing.
A few other guilty pleasures, obsessions, whatever you prefer to call them:
The Hunger Games Trilogy
Anime (so much of it!)
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Game of Thrones
and so many more..
What does this mean for me? It means that I am a fan through and through. I do not care if I look like a huge dork when I ball my eyes out over an anime film, or scream at the television during Game of Thrones. The latter happened so many times this last season. Intense! Let me know if you need to talk about it. I am here for you.
I proudly decorate my home in articles from Wonderland and feel you can never have enough editions of your favorite book. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. I will argue with you that Hogwarts is the greatest school in existence and constantly remind you that there is “One Ring” with pure excitement every single time. Why, because I am right, because that is how fandom goes 😉 It is a true love that you carry with you always.
Well we are nearing a new week and have finally entered July. 2016 is half-way behind us with 2017 in view. There have been a lot of great titles released this year, and I have taken some big steps, including this blog. What moments or memories have you made so far? Which fandoms do you belong to? Maybe you get excited over wizards and dragons, or maybe you also enjoy a little time travel every now and then as well. Did you set a reading challenge this year or a goal? Share your TBR for July!
