Sunday Sum-Up

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @Β Caffeinated Book Reviewer that I am linking my Sunday Sum-Ups with. I highly suggest visiting the Caffeinated Book Reviewer if you have not already. The blog is beautiful and Kimba is fantastic!

I am guilty of spending another Sunday morning in bed watching Anime. I broke down and added Hulu to my list of subs, so I have even more anime to make my way though πŸ˜‰ I have a feeling there may be some manga reviews in the near future. Once I get the itch, I have to scratch! Today was a large, unnecessary bowl of Cookie Crisp and episodes of Black Butler because I am an adult and can do what I want πŸ˜‰

We also celebrated my son’s 12 birthday last night. I believe I made the most ridiculous cake of my life. I am used to cake decorating, and this was by most means, a simple project, but the sugar overload was intense! All in all, this weekend was nice.

Obviously, Vassa in the Night was a huge hit for me. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this book would resonate so strongly with me after seeing so many less than stellar reviews. It has now found a home on my shelf of favorites ❀

I am also still working on The Feast of All Souls by Simon Bestwick.

This week I announced the winner of my giveaway for one copy of Eye of the Storm by Frank Cavallo which wasΒ Lora @TheMisplacedSelchieΒ πŸ™‚

I also participated inΒ The Playlist Shuffle Tag, which was a lot of fun! Big thanks toΒ Inge @TheBelgianReviewerΒ for nominating me!

I hope to have more time to invest in reading and catching up with everyone this week, but there is a lot happening. Big thank you to everyone who continues to share and help make Books, Vertigo and Tea all that I can possibly want it to be. I am very proud to be part of such a fantastic community. And that is not the meds talking πŸ˜‰

I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it. I completely forgot about the book after I bought it. I’m loving the Alice retellings. πŸ™‚

  4. Ha that sounds like a good Sunday morning to me! Although I haven’t watched a lot of anime… I keep getting this stuff from Hulu and wondering whether to add it. Happy birthday to your son- and wow what a cake. M&M’s??? Gimme. πŸ™‚ And yes adulting does have its advantages…

    1. Thank you so much Greg! It has been a good weekend indeed. I hope yours has. I wish I could comment on your stinking blog haha πŸ˜‚ but I want you to know I really enjoy your post! So far I am enjoying Queen of Hearts πŸ˜‰

  5. A very happy belated birthday to your son! What an awesome cake πŸ˜€ It looks to pretty to eat! I imagine it didn’t last long after you made it πŸ˜›

  6. Hi there…. is this my first visit? I’m not sure, if so, hello…. I’m from Australia!

I’ve been seeing Hag-Seed in a few places and read some mixed reviews. I’ve not enjoyed Atwood’s most recent books so haven’t rushed out to read this one!!!

    1. Hi Deborah! Wonderful to meet you. Yes, a lot of mixed feedback on Hag-seed. If Atwood’s recent work has not connected with you, I am not sure this will. But you never know πŸ˜‰ Unfortunately, this author and I do not seem to agree with each other. Some readers really find enjoyment in her work though. I hope you have a great day 😊

  7. I hope your son had a lovely birthday 😊 I love those cakes! So easy to make and so, so yum! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on Queen of Hearts πŸ’–

  8. I have read a couple of Black Butler mangas in the original version, but I can’t remember much of it. I was too busy trying to read Japanese to pay attention to the story. I was always the weird Japanese student who did not like manga, haha! Students used to wonder what I was doing there, I don’t like mangas or animes except for Card Captor Sakura! Being an adult has its advantages, you can decide to watch whatever you want and no one can stop you! Happy Birthday Charlie!! I love this cake, it reminds me of Marie’s (drizzleandhurricane on WP). So much sugar! I would love to try it with the million KitKat flavours you find in Japan!

    1. The various kit kats would be fun! I have also seen something similar with pocky 😊 I love manga, but I cannot read japanese haha. Charlie says thank you ❀ we are on our way to the airport so he can see dad, and then my sick arse is headed back to bed.

  9. I almost…no I did lol have to scroll back up after reading manga & anime to see if it was really your blog! I LOVE ANIME! πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ™ŒπŸΌ it’s been years since i’ve watched a good one since my past obsessions were Bleach & Naruto (really need to get back to that funny lil guy). There was a point where I was watching them online only as they were being released on a weekly basis in Japanese with the english subs. I prefer watching my anime this way than the American versions, I don’t know why but I laugh harder lol. I really want to get into Manga, other than Orange which has been heavily recommended & I am picking up soon, I don’t know of any other good ones. You have also seriously renewed my interest in Vassa, i’ve moved it up on my shelves cuz it was in the shameful pile lol.

    1. Thank you Lilly! I hope you enjoy Vassa ❀

I have read manga and watched anime heavily for some time. I had a CR sub and was watching it online at my pc forever because I do not enjoyed dubbed anime. Now I have discovered that since Funimation and Hulu are part of the same company (or something like that) I can watch a ton of subbed anime haha.

A favorite manga of mine is Alice in the Country of Hearts. I know shocking I love a Wonderland themed story πŸ˜‰

We will have to trade suggestions some time haha.

  10. Happy birthday to your son! The cake looks amazing but I bet it’s so so SO sweet πŸ˜› I’m glad to see you enjoyed Vassa in the Night, it was a 1-star read for me haha but it seemed like it’s a huge hit or miss for some people, like no in between, because people either DNF-ed it or rate it highly πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you so much and yes the cake was a bit too much for me 😊 The kids did not conplain though. I agree about Vassa. I have seen a lot of DnF so I was nervous. Luckily it worked for me. Sorry it did not for you, but I hope your next read is a great one 😊
