Sunday Sum~Up

holiday sumup
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer that I am linking my Sunday Sum-Ups with. Stop by and say hello!

Another busy week has come to an end. And while we hit a few bumps, I still managed to accomplish almost everything I set out to do this week and finish a few books! So I am pretty pleased with that! Not a lot has changed here on the homestead aside from continuing to prep for the upcoming holiday. I am happy to say that we are probably 80% done. This has to be a record. My only complaint would be that my WP does not seem to be snowing like others.. so I might take a moment to pout about this ❄️ I chose to add my own snow(man) by updating the header for this post, because I am a problem solver 😉

Okay, so totally deviating from the traditional holiday read here, but I am particularly interested in reading more translated work, and this captured my eye on Kindle this week.

By Ludmilla Petrushevskaya
Translated by:  Keith Gessen, Anna Summers

Synopsis:

Vanishings and apparitions, nightmares and twists of fate, mysterious ailments and supernatural interventions haunt these stories by the Russian master Ludmilla Petrushevskaya, heir to the spellbinding tradition of Gogol and Poe. Blending the miraculous with the macabre, and leavened by a mischievous gallows humor, these bewitching tales are like nothing being written in Russia-or anywhere else in the world-today.

  • Tuesday I shared a wonderful interview with Tiffany McDaniel, the author of The Summer That Melted Everything. This was a particularly personal experience for me, as I discovered the book setting was based on the county I grew up in. Corresponding with Tiffany has been incredible! You can read the review here if interested.
  • Wednesday I was thrilled to participate in a blitz with Rockstar Book Tours to celebrate the release of Ever the Brave. I was also able to interview the author, Erin Summerill not too long ago and am a huge fan of the first book in the series, Ever the Hunted. The giveaway is for this blitz is open until 12/12/17 (US only – sorry). You can check out the details here.
  • Friday was another Confessions of a Tea Sippin’ Blogger post that talked about my year as a blogger in 2017.

What I am listening to:

dream
I am still currently finishing up Quest of the Dreamwalker by Stacy Bennett and have to admit I am really enjoying it. But clocking in at nearly 15 hours, it is taking me some time to complete.

Review soon though!

What I am watching this week:

Netflix Original: Dark
Cast: Oliver MasucciKaroline EichhornJördis Triebel
The run down – This German set series follows the disappearance of two young boys that slowly reveals the tangled connection between four separate families amidst dark mystery. It also offers a hefty dose of the supernatural, and an incredible opening sequence.

There you have it. Looking back, I am certainly in the holiday spirit but seem to be enjoying a nice dose of the darker elements in films and books at the moment. What are your current reads or watches? Any recommendations?

  1. Glad your holiday prep is going well. 🙂 Mine is… well, going. lol

I have been totally thinking of trying Dark on Netflix, so if you say it has a great opening sequence that makes me want to try it even more! Maybe I’ll binge it this week ha ha.

    1. Haha.. we are headed out today to wrap a few things up and then I am pleased report, mission holiday a success! For the first time ever, we are not finishing on the final moments.

I do recommend dark. It is superb in my opinion. I had to switch back to the original German language though because dub bothers me haha. Let me know if you do watch. I will probably review it if time allows. It is only 10 episodes so an easy binge 😉

  2. Hmm… more works in translation? Am I maybe a slight influence? 🙂 I feel like a bit of a slacker compared to you this week, but work! Ugh!

I keep hearing good things about Dark! I think it will be a January watch for me.

  3. There Once Lived A Woman Who Tried To Kill Her Neighbor’s Baby sounds hella freaky. 😛 Hope it turns out good though. I’ve been meaning to try Dark too. It looked awesome when they first released a trailer for it. Have a nice week-end, Danielle. 🙂

    1. It is fantastic! I am 6 episodes in and still trying to piece some of it together 😉 I love foreign films and shows. Honestly, about 75% of what I watch is not in English haha. Especially when it comes to the darker stuff. I hope you have a lovely week ❤

  4. Being 80% done by now is amazing! I am so not ready. I haven’t ordered ANYTHING, and the whole NetGalley fiasco today prevented me from actually doing any gift shopping. Grah! So your progress is enviable 🙂

If you’re going to ask about the NetGalley fiasco, I’ll have a post about it on Monday. Although it’s pretty big, so it might have reached you already.

And I actually don’t have any holiday recommendations! The holidays blaze by so fast I can’t even begin to start reading anything seasonal 😀

    1. I have not heard of a Netgalley fiasco, aside from the lame fact that it seems it might be more limited in the future (I think I read not available internationally). Which is a terrible shame. But my info on that could be wrong. So I wouldn’t know what to ask 😛 But I will look for your post 🙂

I am not much of a holiday reader either 😉 No time as well. It all flies by. I hope you have a wonderful week!

                1. Haha oops if I spammed you then. I thought it was my phone because I did not get the normal message telling me it was awaiting moderation. Choose the one that sounds nicest lol 😉 I was having a hard time with your comment box on mobile. It jumped a lot while trying to add to and type. Not sure why. Probably my stupid phone. I had an update right after 😉 But great post ❤ Let me know if they are not there and I will come back around 😉

                  1. That’s fine! 🙂 oh, comment boxes on mobile through the WordPress app do that for me too. Sometimes there’s trouble on the browser as well. Must be a phone thing 🙂 if I comment through the WP app I make sure to open to the browser, no the in-app browser, cause all blogs jump then.

                  2. I only have problems on the ones similar to yours that require me to add a name, email, etc. Most WP comments do not require that since I am a WP blogger. Is it a plug in or setting that makes it request the additional info? Maybe I can tweak something on my end 😊

                  3. I think my biggest issue was trying to work from the phone haha 😉 I just need to be more patient and wait until I am at the pc or chromebook. I tend to use my phone a lot because I am laid up for extended periods 😛 Happy new year ❤

  5. I still seem to be drifting in and out of a reading slump with no real reason for it…I just want to watch TV most of the time! I had that snow effect but it caused me trouble so I switched to the year round fireworks which works better!

  6. Wow, you seem to have had a full week, Danielle! Hope you enjoy the rest of your readings and other hobbies ❤
Darker titles do seem a bit odd at this time of year but hey, I've read so many blurbs for Christmas mysteries/thrillers I just assume it's a part of the season as well? Hahaha

  7. I just finished the Jasper Dent (I Hunt Killers) trilogy by Barry Lyga and loved it. It’s about a teenage boy who tries to help find killers because he feels guilty that his dad was a notorious serial killer (who is in prison). I’ve been watching mostly Christmas movies though my husband and I started the Godless Netflix series and so far so good. Will check out Dark maybe.
