Synopsis:

A novel of suspense that explores the complexities of marriage and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

When you read this book, you will make many assumptions.
You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement.
You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves.
You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her.
You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships.
Assume nothing.

(New) Thoughts

The Wife Between Us is stunningly complex story of a divorced woman and her ex husband’s young bride to be. It is everything you will want in a suspenseful mystery and nothing you expect. It’s tempting rave about this book for multiple paragraphs and part of me is dying to discuss it at great length, but that would be an atrocity. This will be short and sweet. Do yourself a huge service, skip the lengthy reviews and jump into this one blind! You will come to appreciate the obscured synopsis.

This is a distorted tale of marriage and deceit that is fueled by slow revelations and character development. The brilliance being that it relies on completely “unreliable” narration. Told through alternating chapters, a cunning manipulation of viewpoints effortlessly conceals the truth well into the final pages.

To know that this is co-authored is spectacular. Each seamless transition and intelligent sequence of events leave no evidence of more than one pen at work. Combined efforts have created a gratifying read that successfully deceives the reader. You will think you know, then you will realize you don’t. Then you will think you do. But you don’t.

What begins as a classic tale of a failed marriage and an affair quickly evolves into a work of true craftsmanship that twists and turns so many times, it is disorienting. The final outcome is a story within a story that is completely addictive and absorbing. The pages will turn themselves. Grab a hot cup and prepare to settle in, because if you appreciate mystery and suspense, you will find it difficult to put this one down.

*I would like to thank St. Martin’s Press for this advanced copy. The above review is my own, unbiased and honest opinion.

Untitled designEnjoyed with multiple cups of Chamomile (to counteract the tension), as I just couldn’t stop with this one.

  1. You only made me want to read it so much more!! This sounds absolutely brilliant and it really is amazing that a co-authored book is so well-balanced and flows so naturally. This book is so ‘hyped’ I am a little bit afraid of being let down.. I’m pretty good at guessing :-). I guess I’ll have to read it to find out 🙂

  2. Loved your review Danielle! not sure how I missed the fact that it’s co-authored lol, just got it in my December Book of the Month. I am psyched up to find out what makes this one stand apart from the other thrillers. Always down for a good suspenseful read 😉

  3. Wonderful review, Danielle!! 😊 I read this in a few hours over Thanksgiving. I could not put it down! It was stunningly insane! I’m still floored by it 2 weeks after posting my own review, lol. It takes a lot to keep me from guessing all the twists and secrets in a suspense novel, but I was so wrong with this one! It was perfect! I hope you’re well! I’ve been keeping track of you as I can via Twitter…I owe you an email! The past 3 weeks have been, well not so great 😔 But I finished classes Thurs and am finishing grading exams today and tomorrow, so I’ll start break this week. Yay!! I’ll try to email today or maybe send you a DM via Twitter!! I definitely want to catch up this week! ❤❤❤

      1. So sorry you have been sick! I hope you are feeling better! We’ve all had something or other here too. I’ve had strep that I caught from my 7 yr old daughter who has had 2 ear infections back to back in Nov, strep, and bronchitis with wheezing so bad they think she might have asthma, so she has been on 2 rounds of steroids. Then hubby had what he thought was the flu (drama city), but it was just a terrible cold and cough. School/teaching is officially over, so I’m hoping to enjoy the break now; I just hope everyone stays well! It’s hard for me to be around them when they are sick since the steroids lower my already low immune system. I woke up this morning coughing, so my fingers are crossed it turns into nothing since I’ve already had pneumonia 3x this year, and the drs have warned me about that and pleurisy. This is a busy time for sure!! And I know you get it, which I’m so grateful for 🙂 It’s just been a rough month with everything, especially with our dog (well, my dog more than anyone’s) passing away right before Thanksgiving as well (I’m not sure if you saw my blog post about that on Twitter or WP). The grief really put me in a bad place for weeks, and it set me back health wise with the pain, fatigue, etc because of the stress. I’m just now starting to not cry every day 3 1/2 wks later. It was just a lot to happen all at once I think on top of just being diagnosed, etc. And she was certainly the most wonderful dog a person could ever have ❤ When I wrote my blog post saying bye to her, I think that's the one time I've not had trouble writing! Oh, and I did write a post about my diagnosis as you advised, and people were so wonderful!! Take care!! I guess I did write to you, lol! But I will talk to you soon; I would love to chat!! ❤

        1. I am so sorry to hear about you dog! That breaks my heart. I know you have had a ton thrown at you. I am overdo a visit to your blog. To be honest, I havent been able to keep up and will be taking a break (short) soon to rest and be with family during the holidays.

Just remember, I am forever sending you all the love. Here any time. Via email, etc. I hope you start to feel better in terms of the nasty cold going around. I know colds only seem to compound symptoms 💕💕💕

          1. Thank you! I’m still so heartbroken; fourteen years was just not enough time with her. It never is when you love a pet that much. It really does feel like everything happened at once. But we go on.

Glad to hear you’re taking a break. You definitely deserve and need to. I hope you get lots of rest over the holidays and have a wonderful time with your family.

Much love to you too, Danielle! Always thinking about you! And the same…message or email anytime! ❤❤❤ xxx

              1. You’re welcome! 💞 I need to write posts for this week, but I’m not motivated after 17 weeks of nonstop staring at a pc for work and school. They may or may not get done. I’m not going to worry about it though since my rest is more important. Thank you, my friend! xxx
