Sunday Sum~Up

Sunday Sum_Up (1)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer that I am linking my Sunday Sum-Ups with. Stop by and say hello!

It has been another good week with limited hurdles. I did suffer a few minor setbacks with work thanks to migraines, but I was able to rest and easily get back on track. I even made it into the office on Friday for a few hours which is always a treat! Saturday, a friend and I took the kids to see Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal on the big screen as part of Fathom Events. It was pretty nice to have the opportunity to see an old favorite come to life at the theater.

By Melissa Albert

Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead of the uncanny bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice’s grandmother, the reclusive author of a cult-classic book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns how bad her luck can really get: her mother is stolen away―by a figure who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother’s stories are set. Alice’s only lead is the message her mother left behind: “Stay away from the Hazel Wood.”

Alice has long steered clear of her grandmother’s cultish fans. But now she has no choice but to ally with classmate Ellery Finch, a Hinterland superfan who may have his own reasons for wanting to help her. To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother’s tales began―and where she might find out how her own story went so wrong.

I am actually starting The Frankenstein Chronicles on Netflix after a friend brought it to my attention. I love Sean Bean.. but we all know he will die. Has he ever been casted for a part and lived?!

  1. Ah The Dark crystal! I’ve never seen it but I’ve heard of it of course. How cool it must have been to see it on a big screen! Hope the Hazel Wood is good- it looks fun.

    Lol about Sean Bean. 🙂

    1. Umm.. Sean Bean always dies. I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to that fact 😛 The Dark Crystal is a must! I was breakthrough for Henson and Oz. No one had tackled a feature film with no humans at the time. It is brilliant and still impressive 🙂 I am almost done with the Hazel Wood and enjoying it.

  2. I’ve never been a fan of the Dark Crystal, a point of contention between me and the other half! lol. Glad you enjoyed seeing it on the big screen.
I’ve been seeing a lot about The Hazel Wood lately, will need to add it to the wishlist.
    Have a good week!

  3. The Dark Crystal. Now that was some good stuff. Especially to a 9 or 10 year old. I remember reading the graphic novel too and absolutely loving it.
I’ve never watched it since then because I have such good memories and didn’t want to tamper with that. That being said, how did a re-watch as an adult go over?

    1. Oh this was not my first re-watch. I have the Blu-Ray here. I am a big fan of the film not only for the story line but how breakthrough it was when released. It paved the way for so many! But seeing on the big screen with my son for the first time was incredibly fun! It did not disappoint. I am not sure if it is know how much went into the film or how original the concept was at the time, but it never fails to impress me 🙂

  4. I keep seeing The Hazel Wood and Children of Blood and Bone throughout the community and they look interesting, but I’m not sure haha. I hope your migraines are gone for this week, they’re never fun. Hope you have a great week 🙂

    1. Thank you Chloe 🙂 They are an ongoing process, so I am used to dealing with them, they just slow me down. Today is a bit better. I loved Children of Blood and Bone and cannot recommend it enough. I am really enjoying the Hazel Wood also, but it is slower and darker than some may enjoy. Have a wonderful week!

  5. I want to read The Hazel Wood. I am riding out the storm that took out our power at a friends. So surreal looking at all the downed trees and power lines cut in half. They say we won’t have power to our area till Wednesday!! Have a good Sunday!

  6. Sorry about your migraines, but I hope your feeling better today! I need to read Hazel Wood; I keep seeing it everywhere, but I think I will wait for your review. Funny, I just added Frankenstein Chronicles to my watchlist last night because I love Sean Bean, lol. And he did live in the TNT series Legends he did was in!! I loved that show…he played a FBI operative, but it was canceled after 2 seasons. I was angry when it was, but glad he survived! I think it might be on Hulu. I’m going for a 60 min hot stone massage on Tues…a birthday present from my son…and I’m very excited since I’m really struggling with joint and muscle pain. Otherwise, I’m doing ok! I hope you have a great week!! Take care! 🤗😘❤

    1. Ah haha.. I bet he would have died if the series continued lol. No but seriously, he always plays the characters that die. I hope you enjoy the stone massage. I cannot do the heat or else I would love to have one! I have to use ice for my muscles and stretching. I am told that they are wonderful though 🙂 I am glad you seem to be faring a bit well right now. I think of you often ❤

      1. I’m sure he would have!! That was the running theme, kind of as a joke, would he survive the next episode since he always dies, lol! I was sure they’d kill him off the series finale but was so happy they didn’t!

I will! I love the hot stone massages; the heat really helps with my fibro flares. I bought an infrared heat mat that is body length and lying on it really helps since the heat penetrates in-depth and the temperature can be set to 160 degrees, but I’ve never gone above 150. It was pricey, but it has been worth it for days when I can barely move since it seems to be the only thing to mobilize my joints and alleviate the pain in my muscles to a degree. Too bad you can’t do heat. I use ice for my migraines all the time and for my shoulder and bicep ..I have a rotator cuff impingement and bicep tendinitis that ice helps (yes, I’m a mess, lol). Once I shook off the flu and pneumonia, I felt better although I know being sick caused a fibro flare, and I blame the increased pain on that. It happens every time I’m sick. It is what it is though 😊 I think of you often too!!

          1. No! But my Dr did recommend one, so I’ve been thinking about getting one. If I do, I’ll let you know. They’ve started me on CBD oil for pain and anxiety, and it has really helped. I was able to stop taking my Neurontin. I’m going to buy the cream next for pain. I have a friend with MS, and she’s had a lot of success with both…I will ask her about the blanket, she might actually be using one! I’ll let you know 😊😉

              1. I wish I had known about it sooner!! It’s the only thing that allows me to sleep 8 hrs a night; before I started it, I was sleeping 2-3 hrs a night or 5-6 hrs of broken sleep. Have you used the cream at all? And they have a tea, lol. I was tempted, but I didn’t want to pay $40 for tea. I definitely will let you know. I sent her a message 😉

                1. I have used a bit of everything being here in Portland 😉 Everything is pretty legal and most of the shops carry straight CBD in a variety of forms. The cream did little for me. I use it honey form in my tea, as an oral spray and in gummies when I am really bad. Maybe you will have better luck with the topical – xx

                  1. Ha! Ha! Nothing is legal here in NC except CBD without thc, lol. I had to get a very strong dosage oil for it to be effective. I’ve not seen the honey, but I have to order it online too. I’ve seen the gummies, so maybe I’ll try them. Maybe…will let you know! Xxx

  7. It’s nice to hear you had a good week! Nirvana brings back memories of my youth :-). I’m watching a tv series atm that was an Australian series originally and is now adapted in Dutch. It’s about a bunch of women in prison (I guess like Orange Is The New Black but I don’t think it’s that series) and the director was killed without any witnesses. One woman finds herself between two ‘leaders’ so that’s interesting and we don’t know who the killer is (although I suspect someone of course). I hope you have a great week on all fronts!

  8. Dark Crystal always creeped me out, but I love Labyrinth! I think I read that Fathom is bringing that back to the big screen as well? Did your kids like DC too? It must be so much fun showing them all the things you liked when you were younger 🙂

Oh, and National Treasure—a Sean Bean movie where he doesn’t die in the end 😉

    Liked by 1 person

    1. My daughter is still terrified of it even as a teenager. But my son enjoys it and went with me. They are bringing Labyrinth out in May here I believe. They showed it last year as well ❤ It is one of the few films I have as 4k. Oh, yeah haha National Treasure! Every time he pops up, I am like great.. this character will die 😛

  9. Loved Dark Crystals! I would certainly like to see it on the big screen too. I saw The Frankenstein Chronicles on Netflix yesterday, it would comething I would watch, but not so much my husband. I had to add it though. 😉 Have a great week.

  10. How’s The Frankenstein Chronicles going for you? I was thinking to give it a go but I have had SO many disappointment with Netgalley originals that I tend to start overlooking every other show as well.. bleh! But this one sure does sound nice and seeing that it aired on ITV in UK gives me hope… I binged on a different UK TV drama recently- Parade’s End. Benedict Cumberbatch is in it and it was really good 🙂

      1. Parade’s End was.. is, really good! It has this bit of satire about it but a lot of important messages and the drama- holy moly! It’s only a few episodes but theyre long ones and I just really liked it- in fact, I plan to read the book sometimes 😀

And I will defo check out The Frankenstein Chronicles! Sean Bean is a good actor and I do like the sound of a twist- I’ll be in anticipation now 😀 Cheers 🙂
