Upcoming April Releases to Watch For!

There are an incredible amount of promising titles being released in 2018. I was hoping to share a list of the titles I am anticipating for this second quarter in Spring, however, it would be terribly long. So today I have chosen to highlight a few of April’s releases I am looking forward to.

Space Opera

Space Opera
By Catherynne M Valente

April 3, 2018

Promising The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy meets Eurovision in what looks to be if anything one very eccentric “space opera”, this is a no-brainer. I have been meaning to explore Valente for some time. I have already pre-ordered 😉

The Oracle Queen (Three Dark Crowns 0.1) & Queens of Fennbirn (Three Dark Crowns 0.5) by Kendare Blake – April 3, 2018

This YA Historical Fiction is high on my radar for so many reasons. Just click the link above and read that blurb!

Grey Sister (Book of the Ancestor #2)
By Mark Lawrence

April 3, 2018

If I am trying to explain why this is a must read, then you need to stop what you are doing and pick up Red Sister. The first book in this series was one of the most sophisticated fantasy titles I have ever encountered.

Macbeth by Jo Nesbø – April 5, 2018

The Diminished (Untitled Duology #1) by Kaitlyn Sage Patterson – April 10, 2018

30238163Ace of Shades
By Amanda Foody

April 10, 2018

I do not even know where to start with this one! Promising a story full of illicit activity and fantasy, I simply cannot wait to pick this up. I am seeing some positive reviews that hint at fantastic character development.

Winter Glass (Spindle Fire #2) by Lexa Hillyer – April 10, 2018

Isle of Blood and Stone (Isle of Blood and Stone #1) by Makiia Lucier  – April 10, 2018

The Displaced: Refugee Writers on Refugee Lives
By Viet Thanh Nguyen

April 10, 2018

Because some books just need to be read, and I feel like this is one I need to read.

Ecstacy by Mary Sharratt – April 10, 2018

Circe by Madeline Miller – April 10, 2018

Because this writer blew me away with Bird Box (which I was thrilled to learn is being adapted by Netflix).

Noir by Christopher Moore – April 17,2018

The Gloaming by Kirsty Logan – April 19, 2018

What titles are you looking forward to next month? Planning to read any on my list?

Happy Reading!

  1. How do you know what the new releases are? (I see it on Barnes and Noble and thats it lol)

Space Opera, Noir and The Isle of Blood and Stone are those I plan to check out.

    1. I am reading Isle of Blood and Stone now, it is stellar so far! I tend to follow a lot of sites, such as B&N and many others, so it makes it easy to keep up (well as much as one can). Amazon sends me lists tailored to my history also 😉 But I usually start researching releases a few months out to see what I want to add.

  2. Lots of good titles Danielle! I can vouch for Ace of Shades and Circe: they’re both fantastic! I’m looking forward to Unbury Carol, too. I haven’t read Bird Box yet (despite all the positive reviews, I’m a little burned out on mystery/thrillers at the moment) but between its positive reception and the UC synopsis, I think it fits right in to my wheelhouse 🙂

  3. The displaced sounds good, and I have seen Circe on quite a few Waiting on Wednesdays. I have The Bird Box on my Kindke and I need to read it. 📚

I have the ARC of Dread Nation, but I cannot bring myself to read it because the author is the one who started and led the Twitter mob that dragged The Black Witch on Goodreads, and her friend was the one who posted all of those out of context quotes that made people think the book was racist. When I went to see if there were any of the tweets I could screen shot for my The Black Witch review left on her Twitter (I had been told she had deleted them) I saw she had in her bio “I am the queen of dragging, and if I don’t like your book you are going down.” I mentioned it to Liz, and then someone else was talking about it, so I thought I would grab a screen shot of that and it was gone, too. I have a feeling her publisher has put her on a short leash and I hope that has put an end to her dragging days. 😒

  4. This has been a welcome post because I swear I am living in dark ages- not a clue about new releases 😀 hahahaha… but I did come across the space opera and I would be quite interested to read your thoughts on it because I did consider taking a chance and jumping in with this one but changed my mind. Happy reading! 🙂
