This Friday Favorites is dedicated to Ovens; Because I should have two, and I Have None.

Normally, this space would be occupied with Friday Favorites. But I admittedly threw in the towel this week, and am now sporting my tired, cry face.

As I draft this, I am staring at a rather large, gaping hole where there should be, not one, but two, ovens. Keywords “should be”. I don’t want to point any fingers (not the nonhubs), but someone ordered a set of electric ovens to replace a pair of gas ones, with no 220 wiring in place. Gah..ย pulling at my hair.

The best part (<– sarcasm) is that they ripped the beautiful set of Viking Gas ovensย out of my wall before realizing this. Yep! So I now have a week of planned meals that I have to figure out how to prepare on the stove. Of course, this all comes with another onslaught of issues..ย adding insult to injury, but I will spare you the details.

Long story short, current emotional state?

It’s 3 am, I have to take my son to the airport and have resorted to using my own blog as a sounding board. I slacked on actually coming up with a true favorite this week or any meaningful content!

But I am a believer, and I know I will persevere. So I dedicate today to the ovens that should have been. And I push on after having this inappropriate, public meltdown on my own blog and pull up my pants and will approach that damn stovetop with the utmost defiance..

Got any good stovetop recipes that are healthy? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Friday Favorites will be back next week.

  1. Oh how horrible! Do you have a crock pot you can use for some dinners? The budget bytes website has quite a few one pot (pan) recipes… Good luck and *hugs*!

    1. I do and I have a new instant pot ๐Ÿ™‚ The problem this week is that we meal plan for health reasons and have eliminated unhealthy extras in the house, aside from fruits, nuts and veggies. So I had a whole week of groceries that were meant to go in the oven haha. But I have improvised and we made a trip to pick up ingredients for the slow cooker ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. I just borrowed Sheet Pan Suppers from the library to hopefully meal plan and eat better soon. Once I move into my house. I mean I could do it now but why be motivated? LOL

I might get an instant pot one day.

  2. Lol, if it wasn’t the nonhubs then whom could it be?!๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚

That sucks, I hope you get things sorted and hey, if you can’t use your own blog as a sounding board then what can you use.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘ŒNothing wrong in venting at all, it’s what a blog is for.

  3. I second the crockpot idea. It takes a little bit to get used to, but it works well for us, when we use it.

And meltdown! Geez, I know I would have after something like this. So drink that milk, have an even more badass attitude than Moss at Street Scrabble and let it out. We’ll still be here ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Oh no! I totally feel your pain, when I was a student our oven didn’t work for the whole two years that we rented our house for. At least you still have a hob, so you can make stir frys, pasta, risotto, soup, omelette, mashed potato, stew, chilli….

  5. I’d eat out or order take-away or just eat sandwiches and bread for a week :-). It sucks though, especially if you try to make balanced meals for your family! I’d be more worried if my tv wouldn’t work anymore or the internet was down for a week.. how horrible is that ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Ouch! That seriously sucks! I actually don’t use the oven all that much during summer, but still it is pretty darn annoying not having one.
For stove top meals, I always rely on my trusted risotto, mainly because I can throw whatever I have in the fridge in it and it still tastes good haha. Also a veggie stir fry? Omelets? Any kind of soup? And then there is always takeaway or sandwich, although I get that’s not that healthy. I’m mostly living on salads right now, so I’m not much help here haha. xD I hope you’ll be able to get your ovens installed soon! โค

    1. Yes ๐Ÿ™‚ I meal plan as we are making huge changes in diet and have eliminated a large portion of processed foods. So the incident happened after buying a week of groceries intended for oven recipes, but I adapted as well as I could and planned our grocery trip this weekend for some soups and slow cooking ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think it will be fixed by the end of the week โค

      1. Yeah I totally get that… I really have to start planning meals as well since it’s getting colder and the whole salad thing just doesn’t do it anymore. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed the oven situation will be solved soon! โค

  7. I have no oven! Ha ha. The oven in our stove hasn’t worked since we moved in, so I have a toaster/convection oven, but then… there are only two of us. What is really nice though is from before, when I was with The Ex, and I was fixing a large turkey every year for the Friendsgiving we held at our house the day after Thanksguving; we bought an electric roaster so we could cook the turkey separate from the oven, and be baking pies and biscuits at the same time. I would think it would be great to have one around for emergencies like yours. My mother also sent over a large airfyer that she didn’t like. I haven’t used it, but you can bake things in it and roast things. ๐Ÿ•

I guess it’s time to haul out your slow cooker! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ

          1. Ah!!! Expect me over to dinner! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I used to make this really delicious soup that had butternut squash, carrots, onions, vegetable stock, and sage. And obviously olive oil, salt and pepper to taste. But it was soo good and I literally just put vegetable stock on the stove and dumped in some frozen vegetables. Ta da!
