Sunday Sum~Up

Sunday Sum_Up (1)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer that I am linking my Sunday Sum-Ups with. Stop by and say hello!

I started off the week feeling like there was no way I was going to manage content this week and quite honestly defeated. But somehow I began to slowly level out on the meds and produce a few reviews and posts. I feel like I am now semi back on track and happy to be settling back into the routine I lost last month. I did obtain xrays yesterday and we are hopeful they will be clear as my physician is leaning towards nerve damage at this point.

Today we are having our usual combo celebration of my birthday and father’s day before my son leaves. It is tradition to celebrate this way every year before his summer trip so that he does not miss celebrating with the nonhubs. So I may not be online as much but for good reason. I am cheating and having cake, so I am very excited!

Sixteen-year-old Sorina has spent most of her life within the smoldering borders of the Gomorrah Festival. Yet even among the many unusual members of the traveling circus-city, Sorina stands apart as the only illusion-worker born in hundreds of years. This rare talent allows her to create illusions that others can see, feel and touch, with personalities all their own. Her creations are her family, and together they make up the cast of the Festival’s Freak Show.

But no matter how lifelike they may seem, her illusions are still just that—illusions, and not truly real. Or so she always believed…until one of them is murdered.

Desperate to protect her family, Sorina must track down the culprit and determine how they killed a person who doesn’t actually exist. Her search for answers leads her to the self-proclaimed gossip-worker Luca, and their investigation sends them through a haze of political turmoil and forbidden romance, and into the most sinister corners of the Festival. But as the killer continues murdering Sorina’s illusions one by one, she must unravel the horrifying truth before all of her loved ones disappear.

The line between best friend and something more is a line always crossed in the dark.

Jess Wong is Angie Redmond’s best friend. And that’s the most important thing, even if Angie can’t see how Jess truly feels. Being the girl no one quite notices is OK with Jess anyway. While nobody notices her, she’s free to watch everyone else. But when Angie begins to fall for Margot Adams, a girl from the nearby boarding school, Jess can see it coming a mile away. Suddenly her powers of observation are more curse than gift.

As Angie drags Jess further into Margot’s circle, Jess discovers more than her friend’s growing crush. Secrets and cruelty lie just beneath the carefree surface of this world of wealth and privilege, and when they come out, Jess knows Angie won’t be able to handle the consequences.

When the inevitable darkness finally descends, Angie will need her best friend.

“It doesn’t even matter that she probably doesn’t understand how much she means to me. It’s purer this way. She can take whatever she wants from me, whenever she wants it, because I’m her best friend.”

  1. I love A Tree Grows In Brooklyn! It was going to be one of my suggestions for you. Uh, have you read it or just using her quote? Lol if you haven’t you should.

I finished Unbury Carol and enjoyed it; thanks for reviewing it.

I’m getting ready to go on vacation (sadly turned into staying home since I’m trying to get the roof repaired). I’ve got a bunch of books to read and hopefully beach time to celebrate my birthday and then do something for Father’s day.

I’m happy your meds are leveling and hope the x-rays are clear.

  2. Happy birthday! Sounds like a great way to spend your Sunday. I might or might not have a pineapple/coconut cupcake in front of me right now, with the complimentary cup of tea of course. (Ok, who am I kidding, not just the one haha). Have a wonderful week! ❤

      1. Oh bummer! I like my chocolate cake, but only in small portions since I tire of the dominant taste easier. The pineapple/coconut cupcakes are not so easy to pass up on though… I might or might have eaten the very last ones left tonight. xD I hope you had a wonderful day! ❤ ❤

  3. Happy birthday my lovely friend!! I hope you enjoyed lots of yummy cake! I hope the dr has some news for you…nerve damage will not be good news I know. You and I can start a club. But today celebrate! I’m going to eat cake too, lol. Leftover from my dad’s 70th bday party yesterday…having cake in the house is bad, but I’m taking advantage, lol! Enjoy!! Hugs! ❤

Uugh. Yeah. I´ve gone missing, I know * hides face * It´s close to summer break here ( 2 more weeks ) and also my oldest´s elementary graduation, which means I have to attend all kinds of private farewell parties from helicopter parents, etc. I swear these people get live off the energy they suck out of me.
But I´ve missed you lot here too!

  4. Happy birthday! Keeping you in my thoughts as you wait for those x-ray results 🙂 Daughter of the Burning City is a couple spots down on my released books TBR, so maybe I’ll get to it in a month or so? I thought Ace of Shades was quite fun so I’m optimistic about Foody’s first book. Hope you have a wonderful week—and lots of fun with the combo birthday celebrations! ♥
