Sunday Sum~Up

Sunday Sum_Up (1)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer that I am linking my Sunday Sum-Ups with. Stop by and say hello!

This was a successful week! I returned from a small blogging break that was briefer than anticipated 🙂  Work remains challenging but good things happened. No back surgery! I ruptured some disks and just need to heal. Time is on my side. The neurosurgeon does think he has me figured out and will be following up with my regular neurologist to push them to confirm a diagnosis (he is not impressed with their lack of aggressiveness), but I will share this if/when I know for certain. It is something I knew was a possibility with my symptoms and the brain lesion. So I am okay and have actually accepted it. I just need to be who I am with the body I have. The important thing is proper treatment so that I am making the best of each day.

I did acquire a new (and very needed laptop). So I have been in the process of transferring over all my accounts. Amazing how fast you remember that you have forgotten your passwords.. Of course, I blame all of my frustrations on the new computer. But it is nice to be able to see on the larger screen. I am hoping it will help quite a bit.

My daughter made it back from Ohio and we have a nice trip to Vegas planned next month with my non-inlaws when our son returns. So for now, I am just resting and taking it day by day. It is quite possible I will be slowly unhauling my bookshelves by the time this posts.

What I Am Reading This Week

queens of innisThe Queens of Innis Lear
By Tessa Gratton

A kingdom at risk, a crown divided, a family drenched in blood.

The erratic decisions of a prophecy-obsessed king have drained Innis Lear of its wild magic, leaving behind a trail of barren crops and despondent subjects. Enemy nations circle the once-bountiful isle, sensing its growing vulnerability, hungry to control the ideal port for all trade routes.

The king’s three daughters—battle-hungry Gaela, master manipulator Reagan, and restrained, starblessed Elia—know the realm’s only chance of resurrection is to crown a new sovereign, proving a strong hand can resurrect magic and defend itself. But their father will not choose an heir until the longest night of the year, when prophecies align and a poison ritual can be enacted.

Refusing to leave their future in the hands of blind faith, the daughters of Innis Lear prepare for war—but regardless of who wins the crown, the shores of Innis will weep the blood of a house divided.

  1. Hey Danielle! Welcome back, and yay for no back surgery needed! I hope all goes well with the diagnosis, whether it is or isn’t- sounds like you have a pretty good take on the whole thing. Hope your week ahead is a good one. 🙂

    Yay for the new computer!

Ooh Circe- I want to read that at some point!

    1. Thanks so much Greg! That means a lot to me. I am prepared for what lies ahead. I have a fantastic support group.

And Circe! Ah it is still in my TBR haha. It is gorgeous though and I keep trying to squeeze it is.

Hey have you watched the new show Siren? I am wondering whether it is worth tracking down episodes and starting. I believe I heard about it through you? Then I forgot.. because that is how my brain works..

      Have a great week ahead!

      1. Ha I hear you on the remembering part. Okay I watched one episode of Siren, and thought it was okay- I liked the beginning a lot cause it started out kinda intense? But then the rest of it kinda petered out a bit… it has potential though and I may go back to it? Let me know if you try it!

  2. New computers are so nice, as long as you remember everything :-/

My own is limping along, with keys that won’t work unless you bang them really hard. But I do dread the whole “transferring” everything enough that I probably won’t get a new one until something major really goes off 🙂

    1. Fortunately, since I have an entirely separate work PC the transfer was much faster than I anticipated. So that is the plus. I did spend the last two months debating this before committing because a). I am ok with spending money on everyone but myself b). wanted to be sure it would do all I needed for a while to come and make sure I was not forgetting details (I am a researcher haha).

Hope you have been enjoying a relaxing weekend 🙂

      1. Yay for customization! Computers and mobile devices definitely need more of that capability. Even though my eyes are fine, I still find it hard to read black text on white screens, but not all of my reading apps have the ability to switch to white text on a black background. Frustrating, that.

  3. So glad you don’t need surgery Danielle!!! And accepting our limit is very wise but so hard sometimes! I feel it slowly with some pain in the hip or the knee or …as I am nearing 50 (still 2 years to go). My doctor told me that I am “growing old” what a positive message LOL. I hope your trip to Vegas will be really great.

  4. Congrats on the new laptop! I glad you don’t need surgery. My brother had back surgery years ago and now he is disabled. He woke up and couldn’t feel his legs. NOT to scare you but it does happen. I hope all goes well and everything heals for you. Have a wonderful week.

  5. Glad to hear “no surgery,” I hope you feel better soon. I’m not big on getting new technology, I cling to my old laptops and phones as long as possible, lol. Hopefully your new computer will be set up soon😁

  6. I’m glad to hear you don’t have to have surgery, and I hope everything works out for you, and that you have a speedy recovery! On my side, I’ve got an interesting tale. Yesterday, I discovered that Pan’s Labyrinth holds a 98% score on Metacritic. I never saw this film before, and was not familiar with it (I remember seeing it on your blog). I was truly amazed, since it’s a 2006 film, and you know Metacritic, it’s extremely hard to get such a high score (only old films like Casablanca, etc., get like 100%). In short, I was astonished, and my interest in Pan’s Labyrinth was stirred. So I got myself a copy and will try to watch it today or this week. I’m really excited and looking forward to it.

    1. Thank you so much! I am mentally feeling better to have a grasp on things, and ready to tackle the next step. So that counts for a lot.

Instagram is a social media platform I am still learning to work with. Definitely not my strong suit haha.

      Have a fantastic week ahead!

  7. First- I´m so happy things are working out, if only slowly. Having ruptured disks isn´t any fun so I feel your pain ( that sounds off . Lol ). And I´m happy the neurosurgeon thinks he´s got you figured out! That, alone, is a small victory, right? You did well this week! 🙂
And… that quote at the end of your post: The only way to have a fiend is to be one. So much truth. ❤ Now, let me catch up on all your posts, woman. Imma be busy now with littering up your notifcation box. ❤

  9. omg!!! It’s great that you won’t need a back surgery! I really love that you have a neurosurgeon in your corner who is ready to fight your corner with you! This makes me happy! I do hope you get a chance to rest and that your back heals- I can’t even comprehend how uncomfortable the ruptured disks must be! Hugs! ❤

Ahhhh! New computer… you know, I need a new pc for work and probably for personal use as well but I am so darn reluctant to upgrade (everyone at work laughs at my ancient laptop) because of the hassle of transferring and setting it up and so on, so on… I guess you could say I'm not one for change 😀 hahaha, my boss has been offering me a new laptop for 2 years now, and I'm like- nope, mine's still good. very good! 😀

A trip to Vegas sounds like fun, too! Hope to see some great pics from the travel! Take care my friend! ❤

    1. Thanks so much Liis 💕 not adding surgey to this laundry list of ailments was a huge relief and I am thankful the surgeon is being so proactive!

Fortunately, my job supplies my work laptop and setup. I keep it all separate from personal, but this was definitely overdue haha. So I feel your pain. I will use electronics and appliances until they literally fall apart hehe 😂

  10. Sounds to me like you’ve found the right physician and so happy you won’t have to have back surgery:) Congrats on the new computer too. I love mine now that I’ve got the hang of the keys and such being in a different placement than my old one. Enjoy those new reads.

  11. OMG, trying to remember passwords is the bane of my life! Whenever I upgrade my phone I get so mad trying to remember the passwords to all the apps. And I’m super jealous of your planned trip to Vegas, it’s a holiday destination I’d love to go.

  12. I am happy to see that you had a much better week this week. Continued thoughts and good vibes if/when you receive a diagnosis.

A Vegas trip! How exciting!!! I hope you all have a fabulous time. I have never been…. BUT I’m a huge wimp in the heat so it isn’t on my bucket list of vacations lol

Yay for new computers! I really need a new one, but I am holding out for around Christmas time. Hopefully there will be a good deal around black Friday.

    Have a great week!

  13. Yay for no surgery! It sounds like the neurosurgeon is very proactive; I hope that translates into some definitive answers and greater comfort soon 🙂 Vegas should be a lot of fun. I’ve always wanted to go back (I went when I was a kid and couldn’t do much) just to see a couple of shows. Hopefully one of these days Southwest has their discount fares to LV and I can take advantage! Do y’all already have a lot of things planned?

  14. Ah I’m so happy with this good news, I hope it’ll keep on going in the right direction! I’m terrific at forgetting my passwords as well. I don’t want to even think about another computer, even though this one can’t function any more without being plugged in all the time. I hope you’ll have a great week and you can focus already on your cool trip to Vegas. Definitely something to look forward to! xxx

  15. I’m so happy you don’t need back surgery! And yay for new laptop minus having to transfer lol I hope it helps. I have a friend who works from home and she has a TV sized monitor.

I just got back from LAS but that was a work trip. I hope you enjoy your trip with the family!

I’m considering ditching B&N and just ordering books through Target…I’m not near a BM store anyways so I order online anyways.

    1. Does Target offer free online shipping like you get with the BN membership? I have never ordered from them (well not books). I have almost stopped buying books from Target due to those big annoying red stickers they keep slapping on the front of the books. They do not come off 😦

I was super excited about the news of no surgery! And I could so see me hooking my laptop up to my TV if my eyes were bad enough haha.

      1. I have their card so I get free shipping. Hmm I’ve never ordered a book from them. Hopefully they don’t put the sticker on them if they’re shipped. That’s the annoying thing with thriftbooks, their stickers are hard to come off. I have a portable clothes steamer I use to release the stickers usually works well.

  16. Don’t know how I missed this. Trip to Vegas, yay! I hope the new laptop helps you out. I have Baz’s hand-me-down 18.4 inch Sony Vaio and man it’s remarkable the difference it’s made between that and my old 13 inch HP Compaq. 👍✨
