Alanyl-Peptidnukleinsäuren (Alanyl-PNAs) sind Oligopeptide bestehend aus Alanin mit alternierender Konfiguration, in denen Nukleobasen über das β-C-Atom am Rückgrat angebracht sind. Aufgrund des regelmäßigen Peptidrückgrats mit wechselnder Konfiguration der Aminosäuren, sind die kovalent an der Seitenkette verknüpften Nukleobasen auf derselben Seite des Peptidrückgrates angeordnet. Sie bilden lineare Duplexe durch Basenpaarung, wobei der Abstand benachbarter Basenpaare in Alanyl-PNA mit β-Faltblatt Struktur fast dem Abstand stapelnder Basenpaare in B-DNA entspricht. Homoalanyl-PNA wird formal aus Alanyl-PNA durch Homologisierung der Seitenkette durch eine Methyleneinheit erzeugt.
