Advanced Finite Element Method in Structural Engineering available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Advanced Finite Element Method in Structural Engineering systematically introduces the research work on the Finite Element Method (FEM), which was completed by Prof. Yu-qiu Long and his research group in the past 25 years. Seven original theoretical achievements - for instance, the Generalized Conforming Element method, to name one - and their applications in the fields of structural engineering and computational mechanics are discussed in detail. The book also shows the new strategies for avoiding five difficulties that exist in traditional FEM (shear-locking problem of thick plate elements; sensitivity problem to mesh distortion; non-convergence problem of non-conforming elements; accuracy loss problem of stress solutions by displacement-based elements; stress singular point problem) by utilizing foregoing achievements.

Finite Element Analysis of Solids and Structures available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Finite Element Analysis of Solids and Structures combines the theory of elasticity (advanced analytical treatment of stress analysis problems) and finite element methods (numerical details of finite element formulations) into one academic course derived from the author’s teaching, research, and applied work in automotive product development as well as in civil structural analysis. Features Gives equal weight to the theoretical details and FEA software use for problem solution by using finite element software packages Emphasizes understanding the deformation behavior of finite elements that directly affect the quality of actual analysis results Reduces the focus on hand calculation of property matrices, thus freeing up time to do more software experimentation with different FEA formulations Includes chapters dedicated to showing the use of FEA models in engineering assessment for strength, fatigue, and structural vibration properties Features an easy to follow format for guided learning and practice problems to be solved by using FEA software package, and with hand calculations for model validation This textbook contains 12 discrete chapters that can be covered in a single semester university graduate course on finite element analysis methods. It also serves as a reference for practicing engineers working on design assessment and analysis of solids and structures. Teaching ancillaries include a solutions manual (with data files) and lecture slides for adopting professors.

Download and read online ebook Fundamentals of Finite Element Analysis write by Ioannis Koutromanos. This book was released on 2018-02-12. Fundamentals of Finite Element Analysis available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. An introductory textbook covering the fundamentals of linear finite element analysis (FEA) This book constitutes the first volume in a two-volume set that introduces readers to the theoretical foundations and the implementation of the finite element method (FEM). The first volume focuses on the use of the method for linear problems. A general procedure is presented for the finite element analysis (FEA) of a physical problem, where the goal is to specify the values of a field function. First, the strong form of the problem (governing differential equations and boundary conditions) is formulated. Subsequently, a weak form of the governing equations is established. Finally, a finite element approximation is introduced, transforming the weak form into a system of equations where the only unknowns are nodal values of the field function. The procedure is applied to one-dimensional elasticity and heat conduction, multi-dimensional steady-state scalar field problems (heat conduction, chemical diffusion, flow in porous media), multi-dimensional elasticity and structural mechanics (beams/shells), as well as time-dependent (dynamic) scalar field problems, elastodynamics and structural dynamics. Important concepts for finite element computations, such as isoparametric elements for multi-dimensional analysis and Gaussian quadrature for numerical evaluation of integrals, are presented and explained. Practical aspects of FEA and advanced topics, such as reduced integration procedures, mixed finite elements and verification and validation of the FEM are also discussed. Provides detailed derivations of finite element equations for a variety of problems. Incorporates quantitative examples on one-dimensional and multi-dimensional FEA. Provides an overview of multi-dimensional linear elasticity (definition of stress and strain tensors, coordinate transformation rules, stress-strain relation and material symmetry) before presenting the pertinent FEA procedures. Discusses practical and advanced aspects of FEA, such as treatment of constraints, locking, reduced integration, hourglass control, and multi-field (mixed) formulations. Includes chapters on transient (step-by-step) solution schemes for time-dependent scalar field problems and elastodynamics/structural dynamics. Contains a chapter dedicated to verification and validation for the FEM and another chapter dedicated to solution of linear systems of equations and to introductory notions of parallel computing. Includes appendices with a review of matrix algebra and overview of matrix analysis of discrete systems. Accompanied by a website hosting an open-source finite element program for linear elasticity and heat conduction, together with a user tutorial. Fundamentals of Finite Element Analysis: Linear Finite Element Analysis is an ideal text for undergraduate and graduate students in civil, aerospace and mechanical engineering, finite element software vendors, as well as practicing engineers and anybody with an interest in linear finite element analysis.

Non-linear Finite Element Analysis of Solids and Structures Volume 2: Advanced Topics M. A. Crisfield Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, UK In such fields as aeronautical, civil, mechanical and structural engineering, non-linear analysis techniques are becoming widely used for the solution of practical engineering problems. Taking an engineering rather than a mathematical bias, this comprehensive book builds on the fundamental ideas explained in Volume One, introducing the reader to more detailed, advanced topics. Large strains and large rotations, plasticity with a range of yield criteria and hardening rules, stability theory and advanced solution procedures including branch-switching techniques, contact and friction, and nonlinear dynamics, are covered in depth. Examples from a non-linear finite element computer program incorporating the advanced solution procedures are included.
