-- Contracoberta.

This book analyses the origin and evolution of the water supply service in Andalusia (southern Spain) between 1800 and 2020 from several perspectives. It does so from a historical perspective, to understand the evolution of the service over the years; from an economic perspective, as it is very useful to obtain an overview of the level of efficiency of the service; from a legislative perspective, as the regulatory framework of each era determines the models of management and provision of the service; and, finally, from an ecological and environmental perspective, of great importance in the New Water Culture and the protection of this resource. The volume's main objective is to contribute to the extension of knowledge and analysis of the processes of municipalisation and/or privatisation of this service in Andalusia, with the aim of providing those responsible for local governments and administrations, both political and technical, with useful reflection and illustrative information on the use of municipalisation and/or privatisation as instruments for the reform of the local public sector. Contributors are: María Ana Bernardo, Ana Cardoso de Matos, José Escalante Jiménez, Antonio Rafael Fernández-Paradas, Mercedes Fernández-Paradas, Leticia Gallego Valero, Víctor Manuel Heredia-Flores, Carlos Larrinaga, Nuria Magaldi, Alberte Martínez-López, Juan Manuel Matés-Barco, Jesús Mirás Araujo, Encarnación Moral Pajares, Jesús Raúl Navarro García, Nuria Rodríguez Martín, and María Vázquez-Fariñas.

Economic History of the European Energy Industry available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Global climate change and the war in Ukraine have put energy back on the agenda for Europe in a way that has not been seen since the oil crisis of the 1970s. But the economics and business of supplying energy to Europe has a long and rich history going back to the nineteenth century. This book explores changes in energy markets, strategies, firms and investments during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The primary focus is on manufactured gas—the gas that was initially produced from coal distillation until new ways of manufacturing gas emerged after the Second World War. The expert contributors to this volume draw on their extensive research and utilise primary sources to explore a wide range of issues, including technological adaptation, market regulation, energy investments (particularly the role of foreign capital), gas consumption and supply issues. The case studies are particularly drawn from Spain, France and Italy, but the authors provide a comparative and global perspective to consider the wider context. The volume closes with an epilogue that brings the story into the present day to consider current issues affecting gas markets in the EU, including war, geostrategy and pipelines. This book will be of interest to readers in economic history, business history, energy history, the history of public utilities and modern European history more broadly.

Agroecology not only encompasses aspects of ecology, but the ecology of sustainable food production systems, and related societal and cultural values. To provide effective communication regarding status and advances in this field, connections must be established with many disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, environmental sciences, ethics, agriculture, economics, ecology, rural development, sustainability, policy and education, or integrations of these general themes so as to provide integrated points of view that will help lead to a more sustainable construction of values than conventional economics alone. Such designs are inherently complex and dynamic, and go beyond the individual farm to include landscapes, communities, and biogeographic regions by emphasizing their unique agricultural and ecological values, and their biological, societal, and cultural components and processes.

Download and read online ebook Adaptive Reuse in Latin America write by José Bernardi. This book was released on 2023-11-03. Adaptive Reuse in Latin America available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book seeks to explore the theoretical and architectural connections between memory, values, cultural identity, and adaptive reuse in Latin America. It does so by critically analyzing ideas and works within the context from where they emerge. With rich and layered historic centers, a wealth of colonial and 19th-century buildings, and the heritage from the modern era, Latin America offers a unique architectural patrimony and its contribution and impact on contemporary culture and architecture still require critical study and discussion. The chapters of this timely book consider the conflicted relationship between colonialism, native cultures, and immigration. It also explores the connections between modern projects and national identity, and contemporary interventions serving the needs of diverse societies while being cultural receptacles of memory. While most books on adaptive reuse focus on the larger general concepts, different technical approaches, and case studies, this book will contribute to the study of adaptive reuse moving away from Europe and North America, focusing instead on cases in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, and Peru. This book is an important resource for researchers and students in the area of architecture, cultural, global, and design studies, heritage, geography, sociology, and history.
