Airport capacity constraints and strategies for mitigation: A global perspective available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Capacities, Capacity Constraints and Capacity Reserves of Airports, Today and in the Future analyzes airport capacity constraints with empirical methods that forecast future capacities and their capacity shortfalls. When predicting the future of air traffic development, it is imperative for researchers and planners to possess the most accurate data for airport capacity constraints. The book discusses in detail the importance of airport capacity constraints on air traffic development, especially for international hubs, along with mitigation strategies for already packed airports. The book analyzes cross-sectional time-series data to provide greater insight into the problems of airport crowding and over-capacity. The authors go beyond mere strategies to derive capacity, adding estimates for comparable capacities and capacity constraints of airports worldwide. As expanding current airports becomes increasingly difficult, and time consuming-especially for hub-the study of current and future airport capacity constraints becomes ever more needed. Large international airports are especially essential to the global air transport network. The book provides insight into correctly assessing and quantifying the problem of limited airport capacity, while offering strategies for overcoming these issues for a healthy global air traffic network. Focuses on airport capacity constraints in the global air traffic network and their implications for the future of air traffic development Features empirical and model-based approaches that forecast airport capacities and capacity shortcomings Provides over capacity mitigation strategies based on sound and reliable data and methodology Addresses capacity constraints at hub airports, providing insight into correctly assessing and quantifying limited capacity for these important players in the global air transportation network Applies econometric models for the implication of restraining factors on the future volume and structure of air traffic

Industrial Engineering and Operations Management available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This proceedings volume gathers selected, blinded peer-reviewed contributions presented at the XXIX International Joint Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IJCIEOM), held in Lisbon, Portugal, from June 28th to 30th, 2023. This volume focuses especially on the applications of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management for research and practice. It includes relevant information for academics since most of the chapters focus on real-world case studies and systematic reviews. It also provides valuable insights for professionals in the industrial sector by presenting solutions to complex industrial challenges. The 2023 iteration of the IJCIEOM conference had the theme "Developing resilience in Industrial Engineering and Operations Management" and aimed to analyze the resilience of supply chains in the post-COVID-19 era. The works published in this volume focus on how Digital Transformation (DX) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have made the manufacturing and service industry more resistant to VUCA elements (i.e., volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous). Regarding DX and AI, the research specifically focused on supply chain management, project management, and Industry 4.0. Other studies explore how industrial engineering incorporated innovative and technological concepts into service and product operations. Overall, this volume provides a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners alike as it presents numerous relevant contributions in identifying new challenges and opportunities for industrial engineering and operations management. This conference was sponsored by renowned international industry engineering associations, particularly the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM), the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE), and the Asociación para el Desarrollo de la Ingeniería de Organización (ADINGOR).

The aviation sector consists of various actors such as airlines, ground handling companies, and others all with conflicting priorities. In order to understand how these actors position themselves in an increasingly competitive market, The Air Transportation Industry: Economic Conflict and Competition analyzes all the market segments in detail, examining such issues as which industrial economic structure drives decisions, the main economic problems, the consequences for negotiations between different actors, impacts on the global aviation market, and much more. This book covers the entire aviation sector including strategies, regulation, resilience, privatization, airport slot management, and more. It examines how economic and strategic struggles underlie the current market structure, both for aviation as a whole and for the constituent actors as carriers, authorities, and handlers. It examines the ways market and nonmarket approaches impact the competitiveness of the air transport industry, offering a complete mapping of the economic actions between actors of the air transport industry. This volume will help readers gain insight into the possible strategic choices and the mutual competitive strength within the future aviation market. Contains contributions from well-known aviation scholars Includes numerous cases studies throughout that explore a wide range of topics Focuses on applied knowledge, with clearly structured chapters examining topics from a global perspective Addresses the ongoing consequences of COVID-19 on the air transportation industry, examining potential strategic responses in the event of subsequent pandemics

Airport System Capacity available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. At the request of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Transportation Research Board of the National Research Council assembled an expert committee to provide advice on alternative strategies that might be adopted to meet long-term airport capacity needs. The committee was charged with four tasks: (1) to examine long-term airport capacity needs and measures to meet these needs; (2) to formulate alternative strategies reflecting varying assumptions about the growth of air traffic and intercity travel demand, technological development, government roles, and institutional arrangements; (3) to identify the advantages and disadvantages of these strategies; and (4) to recommend strategies for further analysis and evaluation by FAA. This report presents the committee's findings.
