Decolonizing theological education and restoring agency to the people Latinx Protestantism is a rapidly growing element of American Christianity. How should institutions of theological education in the United States welcome and incorporate the gifts of these populations into their work? This is an especially difficult question considering the painful history of colonization in Latin America and the Caribbean, an agenda in which theological education was long complicit. In this book, Elizabeth Conde-Frazier takes stock of the cabos sueltos—loose ends—left over from the history of Latinx Christianity, including the ways the rise of Pentecostalism disrupted existing power structures and opened up new ways for Latinx people to assert agency. Then, atando cabos—tying these loose ends together—she reflects on how a new paradigm, centered on the work of the Holy Spirit, can serve to decolonize theological education going forward, bringing about an in-breaking of the kingdom of God. Conde-Frazier illustrates how this in-breaking would bring changes in epistemology, curriculum, pedagogy, and models for financial sustainability. Atando Cabos explores each of these topics and proposes a collaborative ecology that stresses the connections between theological education and wider communities of faith and practice. Far from taking a position of insularity, Atando Cabos works from the particularities of the Latinx Protestant context outward to other communities that are wrestling with similar issues so that, by the end, it is a call for transformation—a new reformation—for the entire Christian church.

Latin American Women Dramatists available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. “This thoughtfully crafted . . . insightful and informative [anthology] elucidates an overlooked, essential component of the Latin American literary canon” (Choice). Latin American Women Dramatists sheds much-needed light on the significant contributions made by these pioneering authors during the last half of the twentieth century. Contributors discuss fifteen works of Latin-American playwrights, delineate the artistic lives of women dramatists from countries as diverse as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. Looking at these writers and their work from political, historical, and feminist perspectives, this anthology also underscores the problems inherent in writing under repressive governments. “The book highlights the many possibilities of the innovative work of these dramatists, and this will, it is to be hoped, help the editors to achieve one of their other key goals: productions of the plays in English.” —Times Literary Supplement, UK

Download and read online ebook Christianity and Critical Race Theory write by Robert Chao Romero. This book was released on 2023-04-25. Christianity and Critical Race Theory available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Critical race theory has become a lightning rod in contemporary American politics and evangelical Christianity. This irenic book offers a critical but constructive and sympathetic introduction written from a perspective rooted in Scripture and Christian theology. The authors take us beyond caricatures and misinformation to consider how critical race theory can be an analytical tool to help us understand persistent inequality and injustice--and to see how Christians and churches working for racial justice can engage it in faithful and constructive ways. The authors explore aspects of critical race theory that resonate with well-trod Christian doctrine but also that challenge or are corrected by Christian theology. They also address the controversial connection that critics see between critical race theory and Marxism. Their aim is to offer objective analysis and critique that go beyond the debates about social identity and the culture wars and aid those who are engaging the issues in Christian life and ministry. The book includes a helpful glossary of key terms.
