Bandwidth Allocation for Video under Quality of Service Constraints available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. We present queueing-based algorithms to calculate the bandwidth required for a video stream so that the three main Quality of Service constraints, i.e., end-to-end delay, jitter and packet loss, are ensured. Conversational and streaming video-based applications are becoming a major part of the everyday Internet usage. The quality of these applications (QoS), as experienced by the user, depends on three main metrics of the underlying network, namely, end-to-end delay, jitter and packet loss. These metrics are, in turn, directly related to the capacity of the links that the video traffic traverses from its source to destination. The main problem that this book addresses is how much bandwidth we should allocate on the path from source to destination of a video traffic flow such that the end-to-end delay, jitter and packet loss of the video packets are within some expected required bounds.

Download and read online ebook Greening Video Distribution Networks write by Adrian Popescu. This book was released on 2018-01-29. Greening Video Distribution Networks available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This insightful text presents a guide to video distribution networks (VDNs), providing illuminating perspectives on reducing power consumption in IP-based video networks from an authoritative selection of experts in the field. A particular focus is provided on aspects of architectures, models, Internet protocol television (IPTV), over-the-top (OTT) video content, video on demand (VoD) encoding and decoding, mobile terminals, wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs), software defined networking (SDN), and techno-economic issues. Topics and features: reviews the fundamentals of video over IP distribution systems, and the trade-offs between network/service performance and energy efficiency in VDNs; describes the characterization of the main elements in a video distribution chain, and techniques to decrease energy consumption in software-based VoD encoding; introduces an approach to reduce power consumption in mobile terminals during video playback, and in data center networks using the SDN paradigm; discusses the strengths and limitations of different methods for measuring the energy consumption of mobile devices; proposes optimization methods to improve the energy efficiency of WMSNs, and a routing algorithm that reduces energy consumption while maintaining the bandwidth; presents an economic analysis of the savings yielded by approaches to minimize energy consumption of IPTV and OTT video content services. The broad coverage and practical insights offered in this timely volume will be of great value to all researchers, practitioners and students involved with computer and telecommunication systems.

Download and read online ebook Security in Vehicular Networks write by Leila Benarous. This book was released on 2022-10-11. Security in Vehicular Networks available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Vehicular networks were first developed to ensure safe driving and to extend the Internet to the road. However, we can now see that the ability of vehicles to engage in cyber-activity may result in tracking and privacy violations through the interception of messages, which are frequently exchanged on road. This book serves as a guide for students, developers and researchers who are interested in vehicular networks and the associated security and privacy issues. It facilitates the understanding of the technologies used and their various types, highlighting the importance of privacy and security issues and the direct impact they have on the safety of their users. It also explains various solutions and proposals to protect location and identity privacy, including two anonymous authentication methods that preserve identity privacy and a total of five schemes that preserve location privacy in the vehicular ad hoc networks and the cloud-enabled internet of vehicles, respectively. This book also presents a new privacy-aware blockchain-based pseudonym management framework.Vehicular networks were first developed to ensure safe driving and to extend the Internet to the road. Download and read online ebook Non-Linearities in Passive RFID Systems write by Gianfranco Andia. This book was released on 2018-03-13. Non-Linearities in Passive RFID Systems available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book concerns a new paradigm in the field of UHF RFID systems: the positive exploitation of nonlinear signals generated by the chips integrated into the RFID tags. After having recalled the main principles in RFID technology and its current challenges notably with the emergence of Internet of Things or the smart connected environments, the purpose is to focus on the presence of nonlinearities produced by the nonlinear circuits of RFID chips: effects, nuisances and solutions but also and especially use of the phenomena. The presentation covers all aspects from the characterization of the nonlinear behavior of RFID tags and the associated platforms (distinguishing conducted and radiated measurement) to the design of new types of tags where nonlinearities are exploited in order to offer new capabilities or enhanced performance.
