The international scientific community has come to the conclusion that human activities are a non-negligible factor influencing the global climate. The leading Swiss climate researchers are supporting this statement. What is the impact of climate change in Switzerland? After six years of scientific research, the results of the National Research Programme "Climate Change and Natural Hazards"(NFP 31) are available now. They contribute to a better understanding of the complex nature of the global climate and its specific alpine aspects. This book provides the newest estimations about the impact of temperature and precipitation changes on the environment, the economy and infrastructures. The book also describes the possibilities of political and social actions regarding these changes.

Alpine Space Programme: Approaches and Environmental Risks available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book presents an overview of the approaches and challenges associated with climate change risks in the Alpine region. Climate variations indicate that current forest resources will face drastically different temperature and precipitation conditions in the future. Developing prospective strategies for forest management in spite of uncertain and highly variable forecasts of future site conditions is a great challenge. Transnational case studies dealing with different manifestations of climate change effects have been analyzed in this book. It intends to encourage discussions on management strategies to adapt forests in the Alps to climate variation risks. The results have been derived from the INTERREG project "Management Strategies to Adapt Alpine Space Forests to Climate Change Risks" that was enforced within the framework of the European Territorial Cooperation "Alpine Space Programme 2007-2013."

This report assesses the implications of climate change on winter tourism and natural hazards management in the European Alps, with a particular focus on how these activities can adapt to climate change. The report presents the first systematic cross-country analysis of the effects of climate change on snow-reliability in the European Alps. It also examines the implications of climate change for a range of natural hazards prevalent in the Alps, with a particular focus on frameworks and financial mechanisms to manage natural hazards in three countries: France, Switzerland and Austria. Technological and behavioural adaptation measures, together with institutional structures and risk transfer mechanisms, are also reviewed.
