Download and read online ebook Foundations of Criminal Investigation write by Frank Morn. This book was released on 2000. Foundations of Criminal Investigation available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book fills an important gap in the textbooks on criminal investigations. Foundations of Criminal Investigation presents the relevant investigations process as part of the scientific method. This places criminal investigation among the disciplines that have a scientific method or procedure in which a problem is discovered and articulated, facts are found to address the problem, these facts are analyzed, and then the findings are presented in some public format. Author Frank Morn incorporates contributions from some of these other academic disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, history, geography, oceanography, psychology, and the natural sciences. After an introductory section that gives an overview of both the criminal investigation process and the history of criminal investigation, Foundations of Criminal Investigation is divided into two distinct parts. Part One presents an overview of the investigative process from crime scene to the courtroom while Part Two deals with particular investigative problems such as death, sex offenses, arson, and robbery -- framed against the backdrop of the information found in Part One. Numerous illustrations and charts also help explain the investigative process. This book provides a strong grounding and framework for those interested in a more practical hands-on approach to criminal investigations.

The present study has been designed to fill the gap in the extant literature by examining successfully solved homicide cases for instances of investigative error. The main aims of this study were threefold; first, this study sought to examine the correlation between error rates and victim-related characteristics, such as sex, gender, and age. Secondly, incident-related factors were examined in order to determine whether error rates would differ depending on the type of homicide, the relationship between the perpetrator and his victim, and the manner in which the victim was killed. Lastly, it was predicted that the prevalence of error rates would differ among the various investigative stages, in that mistakes would be more likely to occur in some phases than others.

The Criminal Investigation Process: A Summary Report available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The criminal investigation process in municipal and county police departments was studied by survey, interviews and observations, and special data collection. Investigators spend about 7% of their time on activities that lead to solving crimes. Case solutions reflect activities of patrol officers, members of the public, and routine clerical processing more than investigative techniques. Nearly half of investigators' case-related activities are devoted to post-arrest processing; these activities are inadequately responsive to the needs of prosecutors. Collecting physical evidence at crime scenes does not help solve crimes unless evidence processing capabilities are adequate. Policy implications are discussed. (Author).
