Según la ONU, el 3,4 % de la población del planeta es migrante (económico, refugiado, solicitantes de asilo, incluso desplazados internos), y el tratamiento que los Estados les da se constituye en un reto que hace parte de las agendas gubernamentales. La diversidad en la configuración de los destinos y del perfil migratorio hace necesario que los Estados planteen respuestas frente a la migración, aun cuando no es posible hallar una política perfecta y acabada que logre equilibrar la gestión eficiente de las migraciones que promueva flujos seguros y ordenados y el respeto por los derechos de los migrantes, quienes esperan que en los Estados de acogida puedan hallarse condiciones óptimas que les permitan alcanzar su proyecto de vida. Desde este contexto, la academia está llamada a reflexionar en torno a las dinámicas migratorias, los estándares internacionales, las legislaciones y las dificultades que, en términos de derechos, tienen los extranjeros. Así, los autores aunaron esfuerzos para generar nuevo conocimiento, y en este libro presentan a la sociedad los principales desafíos que proponen los movimientos de personas.
