[...] As a result, the Uruguay Round of trade negotiations were launched in the fall of 1986 and the liberalization of agricultural trade was at the top of the negotiating agenda. [...] The Uruguay Round also resulted in the creation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the first round of trade negotiations under the WTO was launched in 2001 (Doha Development Agenda (DDA)).
