ABOUT THE BOOK The book draws on the diagnostic study of E-Governance projects in India, carried out with an objective to capture the inter-dependence of technology (IT), people (functionaries), processes and systems. The study employed a combination of participatory and management tools and techniques. Through in-depth analysis and academic rigour, the book covers the following vital aspects of E-Governance: ? Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and change management, ? Strategy formulation, and ? Citizen-centric E-Governance system design. The book emphasises that the success of E-Governance initiatives hinges on institutional changes and not only on introduction of IT, and it requires a coherent integration of IT, people and the processes. The National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) in India has provided a big platform for scaling up initiatives under E-Governance across the country. It offers big opportunity for the Government to transform its functioning. Though there have been a number of successful pilot projects under E-Governance in the country, a complete roll out will require successful handling of complex issues of system design ? process reengineering, work culture management, capabilities, organisational development, citizens? aspirations and so on. The book provides invaluable insights about E-Governance system design and management, and will contribute significantly for operationalising NeGP.

"E-governance affects every citizen. New information and communication technologies (ICTs) have made public services easier to access and information easier to obtain; fines and taxes can be processed more rapidly and votes can be counted faster. Channeling the potential of ICTs in the public sector has affected how states, and governments at all levels, do business. It will inevitably shape how they will continue to change in the future. This book has grown out of an executive training program, leading to an Executive Master's degree in e-governance, from Switzerland's École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Participants in this Master's program came from all over the world; from government, the private sector and non-governmental organizations. They were all interested in electronic governance and motivated by the desire to learn from the numerous and varied e-governance experiences worldwide. The 12 chapters have been written by 10 participants, one manager and one professor involved in the program. The book is divided into four sections: e-governance visions; local e-governance; transversal e-governance issues and the future of e-governance. E-governance has already led to many significant changes in the way society operates, and this book provides some insight into how this has been achieved, as well as taking a look at the further developments which may happen in the future."--Publisher's website.

Download and read online ebook Advances in E-Governance write by Anthony Trotta. This book was released on 2017-02-17. Advances in E-Governance available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. E-Governance as a field of study is relatively new when considered within the broader historical context of US democracy. The advent of the modern Internet in the early 1990s yielded new technologies that began to shift citizen expectations of how government can -- and in many cases should -- govern. Though innovations continue to emerge at a rapid pace, these technologies may be used to reinforce long-held deliberative democracy principles, including transparency, accountability and flexibility. Advances in E-Governance offers a comprehensive exploration of the role that technological innovation plays in facilitating government action and citizen participation. In this timely book, author Anthony Trotta differentiates e-governance from e-government and examines the increasingly important role social media and crowdsourcing have come to play in our democracy, and the interactions between technology, polling, voting, and outcomes. Including practical cases ranging from DMV registration to online tax filing and markers of successful implementation, Advances in E-Governance carefully addresses how the adoption and expansion of electronic platforms align with new government paradigms and looks to future trends in this rapidly expanding field.
