This innovative and timely book examines the nature and meaning of 'empowerment' in child welfare and protection, using the family group conference (FGC) approach to decision making as an example. In response to the growing clamour for 'evidence-based practice', the book addresses the central question of how the idea of empowerment can be operationalised and evaluated. One of the aims of FGCs is to empower children and their families by enabling them more effectively to participate in the decision-making process and by affording them greater control over the outcomes of that process. Empowering practice? critically assesses the available evidence on the empowerment potential of FGCs and examines the implications of the approach for professionals, their agencies and the children and families involved. Empowering practice? is essential reading for academics and professionals working in a wide range of health, education and social care areas.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Organization, grade: 1,0, University of Potsdam (Führung, Organisation und Personal), language: English, abstract: This research report introduces task completion deadlines as a novel influence on empowering leadership and its outcomes. Based on the cost of autonomy theory and temporal construal theory, the author develops a theoretical model that explains short- and long-term deadlines as moderators of the relationship between empowering leadership and followers’ proactive behavior. She proposes short-term deadlines to reverse, and long-term deadlines to strengthen the actually positive effect of empowering leadership on followers’ proactive behavior. Based on prior literature, these assumptions can only be partly confirmed since relating studies are mainly on the team-level. Practical implications as well as future directions for research are provided.

Download and read online ebook Empowering Users through Design write by David Bihanic. This book was released on 2015-01-12. Empowering Users through Design available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. At the crossroads of various disciplines, this collective work examines the possibility of a new end-user “engagement” in ongoing digital/technological products and services development. It provides an overview of recent research specifically focused on the user’s democratic participation and empowerment. It also enables readers to better identify the main opportunities of participatory design, a concept which encourages the blurring of the role between user and designer. This allows people to escape their status as “end-user” and to elevate themselves to the level of creator. This book explores new avenues for rethinking the processes and practices of corporate innovation in order to cope with current socio-economic and technological changes. In so doing, it aims to help companies renew industrial models that allow them to design and produce new ranges of technological products and services by giving the user an active role in the development process, far beyond the basic role of consumer. Intended for designers, design researchers and scientists interested in innovation and technology management, this book also provides a valuable resource for professionals involved in technology-based innovation processes.
