General Relativity and Cosmology with Engineering Applications available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This is a reference book for researchers working in the field of general relativity, quantum mechanics and quantum gravity. A major part of the book deals with the formulation of special relativistic mechanics, special relativistic fluid dynamics and its generalization to general relativity where the gravitational field is described by a metric tensor. Emphasis is laid on the fact that the general theory of relativity is of tensorial character under all dieomorphisms of space-time and hence its field equations, namely the Einstein field equations for gravitation, the Maxwell equations in a curved space-time geometry and the fluid dynamical equations in curved space time are all valid for all observers in the universe. The emphasis throughout is on the fact that matter generates a gravitational field described by a metric that has a non-vanishing curvature tensor and hence such space-times are inherently curved, ie, cannot be transformed into Minkowsian form. There is a final section on quantum mechanics and quantum field theory which introduces supersymmetry and quantum gravity to the reader. The reader after going through this book will be sufficiently well equipped to start research in quantum gravity, i.e, background independent physics which is as yet an unsolved problem owing to renormalization problems. Note: T& F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Download and read online ebook Einstein's General Theory of Relativity write by Brian P. Dolan. This book was released on 2023-06-30. Einstein's General Theory of Relativity available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Einstein's general theory of relativity can be a notoriously difficult subject for students approaching it for the first time, with arcane mathematical concepts such as connection coefficients and tensors adorned with a forest of indices. This book is an elementary introduction to Einstein's theory and the physics of curved space-times that avoids these complications as much as possible. Its first half describes the physics of black holes, gravitational waves and the expanding Universe, without using tensors. Only in the second half are Einstein's field equations derived and used to explain the dynamical evolution of the early Universe and the creation of the first elements. Each chapter concludes with problem sets and technical mathematical details are given in the appendices. This short text is intended for undergraduate physics students who have taken courses in special relativity and advanced mechanics.

Tensors, Relativity, and Cosmology available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Tensors, Relativity, and Cosmology, Second Edition, combines relativity, astrophysics, and cosmology in a single volume, providing a simplified introduction to each subject that is followed by detailed mathematical derivations. The book includes a section on general relativity that gives the case for a curved space-time, presents the mathematical background (tensor calculus, Riemannian geometry), discusses the Einstein equation and its solutions (including black holes and Penrose processes), and considers the energy-momentum tensor for various solutions. In addition, a section on relativistic astrophysics discusses stellar contraction and collapse, neutron stars and their equations of state, black holes, and accretion onto collapsed objects, with a final section on cosmology discussing cosmological models, observational tests, and scenarios for the early universe. This fully revised and updated second edition includes new material on relativistic effects, such as the behavior of clocks and measuring rods in motion, relativistic addition of velocities, and the twin paradox, as well as new material on gravitational waves, amongst other topics. Clearly combines relativity, astrophysics, and cosmology in a single volume Extensive introductions to each section are followed by relevant examples and numerous exercises Presents topics of interest to those researching and studying tensor calculus, the theory of relativity, gravitation, cosmology, quantum cosmology, Robertson-Walker Metrics, curvature tensors, kinematics, black holes, and more Fully revised and updated with 80 pages of new material on relativistic effects, such as relativity of simultaneity and relativity of the concept of distance, amongst other topics Provides an easy-to-understand approach to this advanced field of mathematics and modern physics by providing highly detailed derivations of all equations and results

Introduction To General Relativity And Cosmology available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Introduction to General Relativity and Cosmology gives undergraduate students an overview of the fundamental ideas behind the geometric theory of gravitation and spacetime. Through pointers on how to modify and generalise Einstein's theory to enhance understanding, it provides a link between standard textbook content and current research in the field.Chapters present complicated material practically and concisely, initially dealing with the mathematical foundations of the theory of relativity, in particular differential geometry. This is followed by a discussion of the Einstein field equations and their various properties. Also given is analysis of the important Schwarzschild solutions, followed by application of general relativity to cosmology. Questions with fully worked answers are provided at the end of each chapter to aid comprehension and guide learning. This pared down textbook is specifically designed for new students looking for a workable, simple presentation of some of the key theories in modern physics and mathematics.
