Globality, Unequal Development, and Ethics of Duty available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Do we have a duty to end poverty? Is this duty to alleviate poverty, or it is for healing of disempowerment? Based on what moral reasoning is this duty grounded? Must this reasoning be based on value consensus, or can it result in convergence on conclusions from plural moral premises? What results derive from this duty? To whom is this duty addressed? What are the dimensions of this duty? Is this a duty to help or a duty for justice? Is it a uniform duty or are there diverse lines of reasoning and justifications for it? Who must undertake this duty? How is the duty undertaken and fulfilled? Bringing together contributions investigating fundamental themes related to globality and ethics of duty, this volume offers a detailed analysis of these questions, while providing some policy solutions. Indeed, it provides a multifaceted and interdisciplinary dialogue about the ethics of duty in an age of globality and extreme poverty.

The Return of Ethics and Spirituality in Global Development available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The theory of modernization basically reduces the meaning of development to economic growth often measured by Growth Domestic Product of the country or overall purchase power parity of the nation. This approach ignores the variety of perspectives on development, hence excludes the role of culture, identity, and spirituality as social determinants of good development. More importantly, modernization theory which informs the mainstream view on development ignores the structural causes of underdevelopment, including colonial heritage or the current unbridled capitalism in many societies. Against reductionist views of development, fundamental questions are raised about the theory and programming of development. From what perspective is the conception of development perceived? Who should decide and depict development goals? What kind of development could result in desirable changes? Is it morally desirable to dictate an exclusively Western understanding of development to others? Is there any link between development and a right of nations to self-determination? Who is morally accountable for global inequality or ‘bad development’? The novelty of this book lies in its multidisciplinary approach in exploring the role of ethics and spirituality as the curing alternates for the gamut of ills which originate in global inequality. All authors are academics based in a variety of countries and specialize in questions concerning development and spirituality.

Download and read online ebook African Perspectives on Global Development write by Mahmoud Masaeli. This book was released on 2019-01-22. African Perspectives on Global Development available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Africa is not merely an invention with a modern, imperial or colonial background. Nor is it simply a continent in need of foreign aid from the richer, more affluent societies. Africa might be economically needy, politically unstable, and, in part, socially chaotic and suffering from civil wars and social unrest. However, the continent and its peoples are certainly different from the negative image portrayed in the mass media. Africa had been the cradle of civilization in the pre-colonial era, and is today undergoing a diverse cultural, philosophical, and spiritual development with great potential, contributing to contemporary debates around the ethics of globality. The novelty of this book derives from its multidisciplinary approach. Although the authors generally come from the fields of development and economics, global studies, political science, philosophy and ethics, and sociology, they present Africa’s alternative view of human wellbeing in order to provide theories and policy recommendations which inspire the specific developmental patterns for the growth of the continent. The volume discusses the meaning of development for the continent by drawing on culture, identity, ethnicity, and philosophy of nature. The contributors examine a variety of issues and themes directly related to the opportunities provided by globality to promote the development of the continent. They also discuss solutions for underdevelopment and poverty, and how those perspectives might be effectively integrated into the global agenda for the development of Africa.

Download and read online ebook Ethics of Global Development write by David A. Crocker. This book was released on 2008-07-10. Ethics of Global Development available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Poverty, inequality, violence, environmental degradation, and tyranny continue to afflict the world. Ethics of Global Development offers a moral reflection on the ends and means of local, national, and global efforts to overcome these five scourges. After emphasizing the role of ethics in development studies, policy-making, and practice, David A. Crocker analyzes and evaluates Amartya Sen's philosophy of development in relation to alternative ethical outlooks. He argues that Sen's turn to robust ideals of human agency and democracy improves on both Sen's earlier emphasis on 'capabilities and functionings' and Martha Nussbaum's version of the capability orientation. This agency-focused capability approach is then extended and strengthened by applying it to the challenges of consumerism and hunger, the development responsibilities of affluent individuals and nations, and the dilemmas of globalization. Throughout the book the author argues for the importance of more inclusive and deliberative democratic institutions.
