Burckle Publishing announces the new edition of Greater Cincinnati Close-Up. As always, the content is the most up-to-date information available at press time. This new edition has been expanded to 242 pages, and includes more information on Kentucky and Indiana. It provides highlights for attractions, dining, shopping, communities, and navigation in Greater Cincinnati. The cover has been updated with the new Cincinnati Skyline, showing both stadiums (see the Adobe Acrobat file attached). A fold-out map of the Downtown area of Greater Cincinnati has been completely updated to reflect the changes that have occurred on the river front. On the obverse side is a map of the Metro Region that is useful for planning. First published in 1978 as Cincinnati Without Fears or Tears, it is the oldest continually published guidebook for the Greater Cincinnati area. In 1996, it was updated to reflect a new look and the title changed to Greater Cincinnati Close-Up to keep up with the growth of the Metro Region comprising the 13 county area of Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Coverage, however, is concise and to the point in order to maintain a size (6x9 format just ? inch thin) and weight (only 12.8 oz) suitable for the portability so important to visitors and newcomers. As a special feature, this edition includes a color photo CD, Discover Greater Cincinnati in Pictures, which provides a visual tour in full color of many of Greater Cincinnati?s favorite places and featured institutions. This collection of 60 beautiful photos is produced by Stevie Publishing, Inc. A utility is included for browsing and for installing a screen saver on your computer. This collection of beautiful photos is a functional piece, as well as a lasting keepsake. The images are provided for royalty free use for personal purposes and for certain business uses, such as in advertising. They are in two formats, one for internet use and another to create prints. A full description of the CD is on page vii of the book. This edition is designed for retail at just $16.50 (including the bonus CD which has a retail value of $10.00).

This book was released on 1980-04-15. Close-Up available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. "Grady Clay looks hard at the landscape, finding out who built what and why, noticing who participates in a city's success and who gets left in a 'sink,' or depressed (often literally) area. Clay doesn't stay in the city; he looks at industrial towns, truck stops, suburbs—nearly anywhere people live or work. His style is witty and readable, and the book is crammed with illustrations that clarify his points. If I had to pick up one book to guide my observations of the American scene, this would be it."—Sonia Simone, Whole Earth Review "The emphasis on the informal aspects of city-shaping—topographical, historical, economic and social—does much to counteract the formalist approach to American urban design. Close-Up...should be required reading for anyone wishing to understand Americans and their cities."—Roger Cunliffe, Architectural Review "Close-Up is a provocative and stimulating book."—Thomas J. Schlereth, Winterthur Portfolio "Within this coherent string of essays, the urban dweller or observer, as well as the student, will find refreshing strategies for viewing the environmental 'situations' interacting to form a landscape."—Dallas Morning News "Clay's Close-Up, first published in 1973, is still a key book for looking at the real American city. Too many urban books and guidebooks concentrate on the good parts of the city....Clay looks at all parts of the city, the suburbs, and the places between cities, and develops new terms to describe parts of the built environment—fronts, strips, beats, stacks, sinks, and turf. No one who wants to understand American cities or to describe them, should fail to know this book. The illustrations are of special interest to the guidebook writer."—American Urban Guidenotes

Fraulein M. - read free eBook in online reader or directly download on the web page. Select files or add your book in reader. Download and read online ebook Fraulein M. write by Caroline Woods. This book was released on 2017. Fraulein M. available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. In this multilayered historical novel that explores family secrets and hidden identities, “Woods skillfully captures the disorienting mixture of heady freedom and mounting fear characterizing 1930s Berlin, and the political and gender issues she raises add contemporary relevancy” (Publishers Weekly). Berlin, 1931: Sisters raised in a Catholic orphanage, Berni and Grete Metzger are each other's whole world. That is, until life propels them to opposite sides of seedy, splendid, and violent Weimar Berlin. Berni becomes a cigarette girl, a denizen of the cabaret scene alongside her transgender best friend, who is considering a risky gender reassignment surgery. Meanwhile Grete is hired as a maid to a Nazi family, and begins to form a complicated bond with their son. As Germany barrels toward the Third Reich and ruin, one of the sisters must make a devastating choice. South Carolina, 1970: With the recent death of her father, Janeen Moore yearns to know more about her family history, especially the closely guarded story of her mother's youth in Germany. One day she intercepts a letter intended for her mother: a confession written by a German woman, a plea for forgiveness. What role does Janeen's mother play in this story, and why does she seem so distressed by recent news that a former SS officer has resurfaced in America? Fräulein M. abounds with hidden identities and family secrets. With its multilayered exploration of family ties, hard choices, and the weight of history in our lives, the novel shines light on a brilliant new voice.
