Knox was alarmed by the suggestion, relating that he needs the certificates to settle important financial obligations. Writes, ...I must conjure you by every principle held sacred among men, that you instantly on receiving this letter inform me that the said certificates will be ready to be delivered to my order. Declares that the future comfort of his family depends on the certificates, and that he has postponed plans to travel to Boston in order to wait for Jackson's reply.
