Sproul. This book was released on 2023-09-05. The Holiness of God available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Central to God’s character is the quality of holiness. Yet, even so, most people are hard-pressed to define what God’s holiness precisely is. Many preachers today avoid the topic altogether because people today don’t quite know what to do with words like “awe” or “fear.” R. C. Sproul, in this classic work, puts the holiness of God in its proper and central place in the Christian life. He paints an awe-inspiring vision of God that encourages Christian to become holy just as God is holy. Once you encounter the holiness of God, your life will never be the same.

Download and read online ebook Life and Holiness write by Thomas Merton. This book was released on 1963. Life and Holiness available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This is intended to be a very simple book, an elementary treatment of a few basic ideas in Christian spirituality. Hence it should be useful to any Christian, and indeed to anyone who wants to acquaint himself with some principles of the interior life as it is understood in the Catholic Church. Nothing is here said of such subjects as “contemplation” or even “mental prayer.” And yet the book emphasizes what is at once the most common and the most mysterious aspect in the Christian life: grace, the power and the light of God in us, purifying our hearts, transforming us in Christ, making us true sons of God, enabling us to act in the world as his instruments for the good of all men and for his glory. This is therefore a meditation on some fundamental themes appropriate to the active life. It must be said at once that the active life is essential to every Christian. Clearly the active life must mean more than the life which is led in religious institutes of men and women who teach, care for the sick, and so on. (When one is talking of the “active life” as opposed to the “contemplative life,” this is the usual reference.) Here action is not looked at in opposition to contemplation, but as an expression of charity and as a necessary consequence of union with God by baptism.

How do we become better people? Initiatives such as New Year's resolutions, vision boards, thirty-day plans, and self-help books often fail to compel us to live differently. We settle for small goals--frugal spending, less yelling at the kids, more time at the gym--but we are called to something far greater. We are created to be holy. Award-winning author Jessica Hooten Wilson explains that learning to hear the call of holiness requires cultivating a new imagination--one rooted in the act of reading. Learning to read with eyes attuned to the saints who populate great works of literature moves us toward holiness, where God opens up a way of living that extends far beyond what we can conjure for ourselves. Literature has the power to show us what a holy life looks like, and these depictions often scandalize even as they shape our imagination. As such, careful reading becomes a sort of countercultural spiritual discipline. The book includes devotionals, prayers, wisdom from the saints, and more to help individuals and groups cultivate a saintly imagination. Foreword by Lauren F. Winner.

Entire Sanctification may be the most important, least understood doctrine of holiness tradition. Once it was the central concern of much of that tradition's preaching. Churches would hold "holiness revivals," and people would attend extra services to learn more about it. Now, there are churches where it is never mentioned, and many who attend historic holiness denominations would be hard-pressed to explain what it means. However, if the gospel of Jesus Christ is more than a free ticket to heaven -- if Christ expects his disciples to live as he lived and not merely because he lived -- then sanctification needs to become, once again, a central concern of the church.Beginning from the ground up, this book explores how the doctrine of holiness and entire sanctification is deeply woven into the fabric of Scripture. Once we understand the nature of God and the nature of humanity, the problem of sin and the work of salvation, we discover that sanctification is the culmination of the great story of salvation and the hope of everyone who wants to follow Jesus and be a part of the Kingdom of God that Christ proclaimed. This is a book for any disciple of Christ who wants to understand why holiness is not simply an "add-on" to the gospel but rather God's ultimate plan for humanity, allowing us to truly become human again, living the way God had always intended us to live.

Much of the preaching and teaching today demands that people actively earn their relationship with God. This prevailing understanding runs counter to the theology of the brothers Thomas F. Torrance (1913-2007) and James B. Torrance (1923-2003), who promoted the radical notion that all of humanity has its true being in Christ. In The Claim of Humanity in Christ, Alexandra Radcliff refutes the Torrances' many critics, asserting the significance of their controversial understanding of salvation for the interface between systematic and pastoral theology. Radcliff then widens the scope of her argument, constructively applying the implications of the Torrances' work to a liberating doctrine of sanctification. The Christian life is conceived as the free and joyful gift of sharing by the Spirit in the Son's intimate communion with the Father, revealing the reality of who we are in Christ.
