This book explains the process of intervention set selection and provides guidance for anyone seeking to improve performance. The 15 principles generated serve as a guide professionals can use to select an intervention set. The principles explain how and why certain actions happen during the intervention set selection phase and they function as a guide for practitioners when selecting intervention sets. A schemata, that consists of composition, directional dependence, mechanism of action, enforcement, transformation, and reverberation adds to the field of performance improvement. Identifying these factors explains a practitioner’s behaviors when selecting an intervention set. The schemata also illustrate the art and science inherent in intervention set selection. The value of a “set” is to create the most comprehensive intervention to assure successful human performance. The book concludes by encouraging others to continue the journey.

When subjects did change their minds, no differences in self-reported familiarity on initial interventions existed (italicp/italic = 0.085), but familiarity was significantly lower for subsequently preferred interventions (italicp/italic = 0.003). Post hoc paired t-tests showed higher levels of familiarity with selected interventions than their non-selected counterparts (italicp/italic .0001). No significant correlations occurred between familiarity and Prsub3/sub, four analyses yielded correlations for general and prior assessments of likely interventions success. Informed Bayesian analyses illustrated dramatically different results, specifically, 15 of the 18 correlational analyses between self-reported familiarity and assessments of likely intervention success were significant. Repeated measures ANOVA showed no significant effects of practice on the repeated probability measures (italicp/italic = 0.806) and post hoc ANOVA showed that randomized blocks were similar (italicp/italic .0001) and no differences between them (italicp/italic =.201, italicp/italic =.604, italicp

Contributors address the design of interventions that are ethically considerate and sensitive to culture, race/ethnicity, and gender, minimizing threats to external and internal validity, measurement, and budgeting. The guide explores such implementation issues as subject recruitment and retention, data management, and specialized settings, cost analysis, and explaining intervention effects. The text also guides readers in writing grant applications that fund , and addresses how to move intervention study findings into the real world. A unique addition to the book is the availability of digital examples of progress reports, final reports, and research grant applications that have received funding from the National Institutes of Health and other relevant organizations.
