Vaillant. This book was released on 2017. Heaven on My Mind available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Heaven fascinates us, yet we lack any empirical information about it. Why, despite our multiple faith traditions, does Heaven have such positive connotations for us all? Why, despite no tangible evidence, should autobiographies by authors who claim to have visited Heaven, usually through near death experiences, attract literally millions of readers? Why does virtually everyone, even non-believers, agree with the old adage that "There is nothing better than Heaven"? Since a picture is worth a thousand words, Heaven on My Mind will focus more on true stories than on explication. In this book, the author shows how the prospectively gathered spiritual and religious biographies of the men in Harvard's legendary Study of Adult Development (The Grant Study) cast light upon the significance of faith and hope for love in Heaven in real lives. The author intends to show that putting the newly discovered concept of prospection together with our ancient faith in heaven allows us to understand the value of ruminating on an afterlife. Indeed, the life histories of the 184 men followed for their life-time in Harvard's path-breaking Study of Adult Development faith in Heaven is significantly associated with leading more successful lives.Due to recent advances in neurophysiology, the study of prospection reflects a paradigm shift in our understanding of the human mind. Prospection reflects the fact that the brain combines incoming information with stored information to build "mental representations" of the external world.Dr. Seligman and his colleagues' book, Homo Prospectus (2016) revolutionizes modern psychology and supplants the past oriented psychology of Skinner, Freud and cognitive psychology with future oriented psychology suggested by this recently discovered neuroscience. It is prospection that allows us "to fight the next war, not the last war."The author received a Templeton grant to study prospection by reanalyzing The Harvard Study of Adult Development (The Grant Study). Since 1939, the landmark Grant Study has conducted a prospective - in contrast to retrospective - lifelong social and medical study of a cohort of healthy college males. In order to document whether religious affiliation increased over time, beginning at age 47, every 6 years the author, as the longtime Grant Study Director, has asked the men about the intensity of their religious affiliation and the degree of their belief in life after death. Heaven on My Mind uses these spiritual and religious biographies to illuminate the significance of faith and hope for Heaven. In short, Heaven on My Mind will reflect the "natural history" of the men's religious affiliation and their prospection of - and their expectations about - Heaven over the course of their lives.Admittedly, the Study surveyed a very narrow sample; it only studied the lives of 184 socially privileged, not very religious, Jewish and Christian men born around 1920. However, it is to the author's knowledge that this is the only study in the world to follow prospectively the religious development of human beings over a lifetime. As in time-lapse photography, all of the men visibly evolved; "caterpillars" were transformed into "butterflies". The majority of men became more resilient, more mature and more open. For 40 years, readers have found such human transformations in the longitudinal studies of the author's books fascinating. The author believes Heaven on my Mind will be yet another major chapter in the research toward fully understanding the Study of Adult Development.

Glen Kehr is sixty-one years old and a bachelor with no children. He lives in small-town America, New Paris, Indiana, with family and his beloved dog, Jacky Boy. He's a custodian at a high school. He's a Christian of twenty-eight years and a recovered alcoholic of twenty-seven years. He spends time on Facebook with family and friends. He loves music, especially Southern gospel, and likes to sing along. He would like to be a songwriter but doesn't play an instrument. His hobbies are reading the Bible and Christian literature every day, and now writing his first book––a book of Christian song poetry inspired by God, the Trinity, the Bible, and Southern gospel songs. Friends say he has an amazing talent for writing, but he says God gets the credit, that he just has the pen of a ready writer. He says he, too, is amazed at what God's given him to write. He decided to have the book published at the encouragement of his friends. He wants God to be glorified and people to be blessed by it, and if by chance the book doesn't sell, he still has the blessing of being a child of God's kingdom. He's looking to have a long, happy, and prosperous, working relationship with Christian Faith Publishing. This book is dedicated to my sister Ellen Higginbotham who is struggling with ALS disease.

Mason and the Roots of the Church of God in Christ available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The Church of God in Christ (COGIC), the first major denomination to spring from the fires of the Azusa Street revival, profoundly affected the history of the black church. Its tremendous influence can be traced to the dynamic spiritual life of its founder, Charles Harrison Mason. The son of a slave and a leader in the holiness movement of his day, Mason traveled to Azusa Street in 1907 where he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Returning home, he discovered that visions, spontaneous healing and deliverance followed him. A new power accompanied his preaching, and he experienced freedom from former limitations. Mason’s vibrant spiritual life enabled him to lead a fledgling movement from its infancy to a powerful, prophetic community over the next fifty years. Beginning in the rural South in the decades following the Reconstruction Era, the denomination gradually moved into urban areas during the 1900’s. No matter where its ministers, however, the COGIC Church holds in tension the dynamics of holiness, spiritual encounter and prophetic Christian social consciousness. Facing the challenges of our generation, the COGIC Church desires to maintain the legacy of its founder as it prepares for another century of work and witness. "Our younger generations need to know the rich legacy bequeathed to them by the pioneers of the Church of God in Christ." Presiding Bishop Chandler D. Owens "Every pastor in our denomination and beyond should have a worn and well read copy of this book." Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr. "This valuable book should be in the hands of every member of the Church of God in Christ." Bishop C. L. Anderson "God gave Bishop C. H. Mason an anointing to preach powerfully, to heal the sick, and to sing out in spontaneous worship. May we covet the same anointing that transformed thousands in his day." Bishop J. Neaul Haynes "We are the descendants of a mighty move of God that began at Azusa Street. This book will help us to pass on an equally dynamic spiritual life to our successors, taking the Church of God in Christ into the next century." Bishop P. A. Brooks "Church leaders would do well to emulate the dynamic spiritual life of our founder; Bishop C. H. Mason." Bishop O. T. Jones, Jr. "Bishop Clemmons reminds us that our denomination was forged in the fires of a pentecostal revival that continues to impact our society today." Bishop Gilbert E. Patterson "Our roots establish our legacy and provide the springboard for the future. This documentation is a must for this generation and the generations to come." Mother Emma F. Crouch, Supervisor, Women's Department, Church of God in Christ, President, International Women's Convention "This is must reading for every seminary student preparing to minister in the Church of God in Christ. This will be extremely valuable to students of church history regardless of denomination." Dr. H. Vinson Synan, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Divinity, Regent University "Finally, a documentary written by a black historian/theologian and a lifelong member of the Church of God in Christ. Bishop Clemmons' perspective is insightful, informative, and refreshing." Dr. William C. Turner, Ph.D., Professor of Theology, Duke Divinity School, Duke University "Allow Bishop C. H. Mason's vision to grip you, to challenge you, and to change you." Raymond C. Pierce, J.D., Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights
