Institutions taking part in the project were the University of Kentucky, Western Kentucky University, and Maysville Community College. The specific topics examined included food ways and nutrition, class and gender, tobacco production, farm social and spatial organization, no-till farming, and health. Special populations included African-American farmers, Appalachian farmers, and the owners of Historic Farms. Interviews were conducted in 33 of Kentucky's 120 counties.
