Download and read online ebook Lamb-Wave Based Structural Health Monitoring in Polymer Composites write by Rolf Lammering. This book was released on 2017-08-30. Lamb-Wave Based Structural Health Monitoring in Polymer Composites available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The book focuses especially on the application of SHM technology to thin walled structural systems made from carbon fiber reinforced plastics. Here, guided elastic waves (Lamb-waves) show an excellent sensitivity to structural damages so that they are in the center of this book. It is divided into 4 sections dealing with analytical, numerical and experimental fundamentals, and subsequently with Lamb-wave propagation in fiber reinforced composites, SHM-systems and signal processing. The book is designed for engineering students as well as for researchers in the field of structural health monitoring and for users of this technology.

Structural Health Monitoring in Composite Materials Using Lamb Wave Methods available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Cost-effective and reliable damage detection is critical for the utilization of composite materials. This paper presents part of an experimental and analytical survey of candidate methods for in-situ damage detection of composite materials. Experimental results are presented for the application of Lamb wave techniques to quasi-isotropic graphite/epoxy thin coupons and sandwich beams containing representative damage modes, including delamination, transverse ply cracks and through-holes. Optimization experiments provided a procedure capable of easily and accurately determining the presence of damage by monitoring the transmitted waves with piezoceramic sensors (PZT). Lamb wave techniques have been proven to provide more information about damage type, sevenity and location than previously tested methods, and may prove suitable for structural health monitoring applications since they travel long distances and can be applied with conformable piezoelectric actuators and sensors that require little power.

Structural Integrity and Monitoring for Composite Materials available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The book focuses on the recent technology and advancement in structural integrity and monitoring systems in composite materials. Composites have been widely used in automotive, aerospace and wind turbine industries, therefore it is important to develop state of the art technology to monitor and manage the damage tolerance and durability. This book explores the challenge of a monitoring system in a composite and presents a real-time system which has advantages for damage detection, localization, assessment and life prediction compared to the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). It will also present the modelling and prediction of failure in a composite material based on computational analysis of the characteristics and properties of the composite material based on fiber and matrix properties. This book will benefit lecturers, students, researchers, engineers and industrialist who are working in the civil, mechanical engineering, automotive, aerospace and wind turbine industries.

Download and read online ebook Structural Health Monitoring with Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensors write by Victor Giurgiutiu. This book was released on 2014-06-20. Structural Health Monitoring with Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensors available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Structural Health Monitoring with Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensors, Second Edition provides an authoritative theoretical and experimental guide to this fast-paced, interdisciplinary area with exciting applications across a range of industries. The book begins with a detailed yet digestible consolidation of the fundamental theory relating to structural health monitoring (SHM). Coverage of fracture and failure basics, relevant piezoelectric material properties, vibration modes in different structures, and different wave types provide all the background needed to understand SHM and apply it to real-world structural challenges. Moving from theory to experimental practice, the book then provides the most comprehensive coverage available on using piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) to detect and quantify damage in structures. Updates to this edition include circular and straight-crested Lamb waves from first principle, and the interaction between PWAS and Lamb waves in 1-D and 2-D geometries. Effective shear stress is described, and tuning expressions between PWAS and Lamb waves has been extended to cover axisymmetric geometries with a complete Hankel-transform-based derivation. New chapters have been added including hands-on SHM case studies of PWAS stress, strain, vibration, and wave sensing applications, along with new sections covering essential aspects of vibration and wave propagation in axisymmetric geometries. Comprehensive coverage of underlying theory such as piezoelectricity, vibration, and wave propagation alongside experimental techniques Includes step-by-step guidance on the use of piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) to detect and quantify damage in structures, including clear information on how to interpret sensor signal patterns Updates to this edition include a new chapter on composites and new sections on advances in vibration and wave theory, bringing this established reference in line with the cutting edge in this emerging area
