Modeling Density-Driven Flow in Porous Media available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Modeling of flow and transport in groundwater has become an important focus of scientific research in recent years. Most contributions to this subject deal with flow situations, where density and viscosity changes in the fluid are neglected. This restriction may not always be justified. The models presented in the book demonstrate immpressingly that the flow pattern may be completely different when density changes are taken into account. The main applications of the models are: thermal and saline convection, geothermal flow, saltwater intrusion, flow through salt formations etc. This book not only presents basic theory, but the reader can also test his knowledge by applying the included software and can set up own models.

This book was released on 2014-11-26. Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical-Chemical Processes in Fractured Porous Media: Modelling and Benchmarking available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The present book provides guidance to understanding complicated coupled processes based on the experimental data available and implementation of developed algorithms in numerical codes. Results of selected test cases in the fields of closed-form solutions (e.g., deformation processes), single processes (such as groundwater flow) as well as coupled processes are presented. It is part of the OpenGeoSys initiative - an open source project to share knowledge and experience in environmental analysis and scientific computation with the community.

Numerical Simulation of Multiphase Flow in Fractured Porous Media available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Fractures provide preferred paths for flow and transport in many porous media. They have a significant influence on process behavior in groundwater remediation, reservoir engineering and safety analysis for waste repositories. We present a finite volume method for the numerical solution of the multiphase flow equations in fractured porous media. The capillary pressure is treated by an extended capillary pressure interface condition. The method is fully coupled and fully implicit and employs a mixed-dimensional formulation with lower dimensional elements in the fractures. The method features unstructured grids, adaptive refinement and multigrid methods. It is implemented for twodimensional and threedimensional complex problems with several million unknowns. Additionally, a discontinuous Galerkin method for the groundwater flow equation and its multigrid treatment is presented.

Download and read online ebook Computational Methods for Multiphase Flows in Porous Media write by Zhangxin Chen. This book was released on 2006-01-01. Computational Methods for Multiphase Flows in Porous Media available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Computational Methods for Multiphase Flows in Porous Media offers a fundamental and practical introduction to the use of computational methods, particularly finite element methods, in the simulation of fluid flows in porous media. It is the first book to cover a wide variety of flows, including single-phase, two-phase, black oil, volatile, compositional, nonisothermal, and chemical compositional flows in both ordinary porous and fractured porous media. In addition, a range of computational methods are used, and benchmark problems of nine comparative solution projects organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers are presented for the first time in book form. The book reviews multiphase flow equations and computational methods to introduce basic terminologies and notation. A thorough discussion of practical aspects of the subjects is presented in a consistent manner, and the level of treatment is rigorous without being unnecessarily abstract. Audience: this book can be used as a textbook for graduate or advanced undergraduate students in geology, petroleum engineering, and applied mathematics; as a reference book for professionals in these fields, as well as scientists working in the area of petroleum reservoir simulation; as a handbook for employees in the oil industry who need a basic understanding of modeling and computational method concepts; and by researchers in hydrology, environmental remediation, and some areas of biological tissue modeling. Calculus, physics, and some acquaintance with partial differential equations and simple matrix algebra are necessary prerequisites.
