(MPB-21), Volume 21 available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Natural selection is an immense and important subject, yet there have been few attempts to summarize its effects on natural populations, and fewer still which discuss the problems of working with natural selection in the wild. These are the purposes of John Endler's book. In it, he discusses the methods and problems involved in the demonstration and measurement of natural selection, presents the critical evidence for its existence, and places it in an evolutionary perspective. Professor Endler finds that there are a remarkable number of direct demonstrations of selection in a wide variety of animals and plants. The distribution of observed magnitudes of selection in natural populations is surprisingly broad, and it overlaps extensively the range of values found in artificial selection. He argues that the common assumption that selection is usually weak in natural populations is no longer tenable, but that natural selection is only one component of the process of evolution; natural selection can explain the change of frequencies of variants, but not their origins.

This book was released on 2022-03-14. Juris Zoology available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book exists at the intersection of two complementary and conflicting perspectives, law and biology. From the vantage point of both disciplines, Juris Zoology provides a comprehensive and realistic framework to objectively assess the role and significance of animals in American civil and criminal law. Contrasting the views of animal rights activists, Duckler examines animals in terms of their prehistory, history, biology, social utility, economic effect, and aesthetic value. Focusing on animal captivity, control, use, and value, Duckler refutes the proposal of granting animal's legal rights. The book offers a new and controversial voice to the national conversation on the propriety of animal rights, and would be of interest to lawyers, economists, sociologists, as well as scholars and professionals in animal-related fields.

In his groundbreaking book ""Natural Selection"", Charles Darwin explained his theory that evolution is driven by adaptation of species to their environmental surroundings. From the tiniest microbe to the largest whale, all organisms have changed over vast expanses of time due to the forces of natural selection. This new title in the ""Science Foundations"" series provides an overview of the processes and causes that drive natural selection and the principles that explain how it operates, using numerous diverse organisms as examples. ""Natural Selection"" promotes a solid understanding of how organisms change over the course of generations and how current biodiversity came to be.

Download and read online ebook Contributions to the Theory of Natural Selection write by Alfred Russel Wallace. This book was released on 1871. Contributions to the Theory of Natural Selection available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Wallace noticed on expeditions to the Amazon and the Malay archipelego that mammals in Southeast Asia are more advanced than their Australian cousins. His suggestion was that the two continents had split before the better adapted mammals had evolved in Asia. The isolated Australian marsupials were able to thrive, whilst those in Asia were driven to extinction by competition from more advanced mammals. This led to his theory of natural selection, which he presented to the Linnean Society in 1858 with Charles Darwin. This volume reprints those papers presented to the Linnean Society.
