Old Testament Quotations in the New Testament available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. "New Testament writers drew heavily from Old Testament Scriptures as the demonstrated the fulfillment of the plan and promises of God in Christ. The New Testament is filled with such quotations, but their use raises several problems. How do we account for the occasions when the New Testament writers seem to take liberties with the Hebrew text, or when the wording of other New Testament citations of the Old Testament is closer to the Greek Septuagint (LXX) than to the original Hebrew? [The authors] have undertaken a systematic study of the use of Old Testament quotations in the New Testament. In three parallel columns for ready reference and study they have affixed the Masoretic Hebrew, Septuagint, and Greek New Testament texts pertinent to each quotation. A fourth column-- the largest segment of the valulable language tool--provides a critical commentary of orthographic, linguistic, and textual notes on the 312 entries. In addition, the authors include the results of a statistical survey in which every quotation is assigned to one of six levels to determine its degree of difficulty regarding the faithfulness of the New Testament to the Old Testament quotation. Helpful introductory material, including complete cross-references to the tool in both Old and New Testament order, make the work invaluable to scholars and students alike" -- BOOK JACKET from Moody Press.

No proof is needed of the value of the quotations in the New Testament. It is obvious that they help us very greatly to understand the material and the character of the New Testament thought. They furnish a connecting link between the two great religious creations of the Hebrew race, Israelitism and Christianity. Old Testament and New Testament, though substantially identical in their religious conceptions, represent very different conditions of civilization and culture; they are separated from each other not only by centuries of time, but also by great social and political changes. Throughout these changes, however, the sacred volume of the nation, the Old Testament, preserved its authority as divine revelation, and supreme law of faith and life, for the Christian evangelists and apostles, as well as for the Jewish rabbis. How, then, we naturally ask, do the expounders of the new religious movement deal with the sacred books of their nation, the writings of the ancient prophets and priests and sages? What is their method of interpretation? How do they understand the instructions, exhortations, and predictions of the past? How do they fit the old order of things into the new? It is the quotations that give us answers to these questions. - Preface.

Together they provide an overview of the status, role and function of Isaiah in the first century, considering the Greek and Hebrew manuscript traditions and offering insights into the various hermeneutical stances of the New Testament authors and the development of New Testament theology.
