Revitalizing Nigerian Education in Digital Age: What most of the papers in this book have in common is the concern for the revitalization of Nigerian education in the digital age through ICT and other modern methods of making education functional and effective in the new modernity. While some of the chapters deal with conceptual issues, others consider the various role of education in this digital age and how Nigeria can be relevant. Most of the chapters present well-researched, detailed, and informative papers on how to reposition Nigerian education in the digital age. Specifically, the role of education in bringing Nigerias new world about are discussed in simple language and then taken up in different forms all through the book. Since Nigeria has to act fast and decisively to be on the same development and education wavelength as the other members of todays global family, serious actions are being suggested in this book. Revitalizing Nigerian Education in Digital Age simply means taking the above desiderata seriously. Nigeria has a daunting task here in view of the heavy education burden. This is the message that this book puts across.

The Challenge of Change in Africa's Higher Education in the 21st Century brings the reader face to face with the mega challenges and key opportunities in Africa's higher education sector in the twenty-first century. Mwenda and Muuka are two of Africa's emergent scholars, with 20 published books and over 100 articles published in peer-reviewed journals between them as of 2008. Authors who are diverse in their knowledge and experience of the complexities of education in Africa join Mwenda and Muuka in this treatise, which traverses the higher education milieu on the continent from Cape Town in South Africa to Lagos in Nigeria. Stated simply, those who have long called for a new generation of scholars on education in Africa will find a healthy and refreshing answer in The Challenge of Change in Africa's Higher Education in the 21st Century. The motivation for this book was the editors' recognition of gaps in the current understanding of higher education in Africa. The book has clear advantages and defining features over other books on higher education on the continent in the following respects. The Challenge of Change in Africa's Higher Education in the 21st Century is a book written from and with twenty-first century realities, making it a significant addition to the continuing and urgent search for solutions to the continent's development dilemma. It is therefore critical reading and research material for many stakeholders including students, professors, universities, and research libraries on the one hand and higher education ministries in Africa on the other. The role of international development agencies and non-governmental organizations towards enhancement of higher education in Africa cannot be overemphasized.

Global Capital's 21st Century Repositioning available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. What happens at the interface between Afrocentricity and COVID-19 is cause for wonder in a world that is anxious to short circuit global solidarity by trampling Pan-Africanism. Revolutions, including the Fourth Industrial Revolution, are rarely contextualised within the framework of Pan-Africanism and Afrocentricity even when they are celebrated as beneficial to the world. Interfacing Afrocentricity, COVID-19, Pan-Africanism and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, this book teases out the profound challenges of the 21st century. Calling for African solutions premised on African solidarity, the book critically engages the contemporary technological solutionism and technological evangelism that undergirds the Fourth Industrial Revolution and efforts to find vaccines for COVID-19. Unflinchingly interrogating these issues, the book is useful for scholars and activists in education, African languages, sociology, social anthropology, political science, history, religious studies, development studies, communication, medical sciences and legal studies.

Published for the National Universities Commission in Nigeria, this book is the outcome of a National Summit on Higher Education, which took place in Nigeria in 2002. The summit was convened by the Ministry of Education with the support of Unesco. Its purpose was to thrash out the issues pertaining to the improvement and repositioning of the higher education system in Nigeria, so that is may better respond to the country's needs. The resultant work is a multi-contributory publication covering the breadth and depth of the problems implicated in the higher education system. The papers address for example: the purpose of higher education in a developing country context; the state of universities in Nigeria; management and funding of higher education; the relevance and delivery of curricula; disciplinary, social and religious concerns; and the role of ICTs and new initiatives such as distance learning and virtual library projects. The contributors propose recommendations for improvement, including: the necessity of high- level government interest in education reforms; the importance of university autonomy and academic freedom; the need for both the public and private sectors to support higher education; the need for substantial hikes in government funding for higher education; the participation of stakeholders in policymaking for higher education; and the precondition of good government and democracy for the success of the sector.
