Carpenter. This book was released on 1997. Revive Us Again available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Skillfully blending painstaking research, telling anecdotes, and astute analysis, Carpenter - a scholar who has spent twenty years studying American evangelicalism reveals that, contrary to the popular opinion of the day, fundamentalism was alive and well in America in the late 1920s, and used its isolation over the next two decades to build new strength from within. The book describes how fundamentalists developed a pervasive network of organizations outside of the church setting and quietly strengthened the movement by creating their own schools and oragnizations, may of which are prominent today, including Fuller Theological Seminary and the publishing and radio enterprises of the Moody Bible Institute. Fundamentalists also used youth movements, missionary work and, perhaps most significantly, the burgeoning mass media industry to spread their message, especially through the powerful new medium of radio. Indeed, starting locally and growing to national broadcasts, evangelical preachers reached millions of listeners over the airwaves, in much the same way evangelists preach through television today. All this activity received no publicity outside of fundamentalist channels until Billy Graham burst on the scene in 1949. Carpenter vividly recounts how the charismatic preacher began packing stadiums with tens of thousands of listeners daily, drawing fundamentalism firmly back into the American consciousness after twenty years of public indifference. Alongside this vibrant history, Carpenter also offers many insights into fundamentalism during this period, and he describes many of the heated internal debates over issues of scholarship, separatism, and the role of women in leadership. Perhaps most important, he shows that the movement has never been stagnant or purely reactionary. It is based on an evolving ideology subject to debate, and dissension: a theology that adapts to changing times.

Download and read online ebook The Greatest Story Never Told write by Leonard I. Sweet. This book was released on 2012. The Greatest Story Never Told available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. God raises up Methodists for such a time as this. Here is a ditty Len Sweet's Methodist grandfather used to sing: A Methodist, a Methodist will I be A Methodist will I die. I've been baptized in the Methodist way And I'll live on the Methodist side. What "genius" of Methodism inspired this kind of love and loyalty in the earlier years of the faith? What did it mean to live in "the Methodist way" and to die on "the Methodist side?" Perhaps it is time to resurrect a neo-Wesleyan identity and to challenge the prevailing "one-calorie Methodism" that characterizes so much of our tribe today. What makes a Methodist? How can we re-ignite the spark of genius that motivated such commitment in our cloud of witnesses? The essence of Methodism's genius resides in two famous Wesleyan mantras: "heart strangely warmed" (inward experiences with a fire in the heart) and "the world is our parish" (outward experiences with waterfalls of cutting-edge intelligence). For Wesley, internal combustion, the former, led to external combustion, the latter. In the 18th century, Methodists in general (and in their younger years, the Wesley brothers themselves) were accused of being too "sexy." What else could all those "love feasts" and "strangely warmed hearts" be about? Why else were all those women in positions of leadership? With this book the author hopes to bring back to life some of Methodism's sexiness so that our current reproduction crisis can be reversed.
