Space Security and Legal Aspects of Active Debris Removal available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The book analyzes the various legal and political concepts to resolve the problem of the existing space debris in outer space and which measures have been taken to avoid space debris or to reduce potential space debris in the course of future space missions. From a scientific and technical point of view various studies are ongoing to analyze the feasibility of active debris removal. Nevertheless it has to be highlighted that outer space is an international area where various actors with different legal and political concepts are operating, a situation that leads to different approaches concerning such activities.

"This book provides up-to-date knowledge of space debris and valuable insights on how to grapple with this issue from legal, technical, economical and societal aspects. I would strongly recommend that everyone who is working on space development and utilizations and even non-specialists once read this book and think over how human being should be faced with this issue." –Prof. Shinichi Nakasuka, University of Tokyo, Japan Space Debris Peril: Pathways to Opportunities takes readers through the wide spectrum of problems created by space debris – including technical, political, legal and socio-economical aspects – and suggests ways to mitigate its negative consequences and create new opportunities. With chapter contributions from authors at world-renowned universities, private or public entities, and research institutes active in the field of space debris mitigation, space policy and law, risk and resilience, liability and insurance, this book provides a comprehensive introduction to the subject helping the reader to grasp the whole picture of the current space debris remediation challenges. This book will be of interest to the scientific communities, policy makers, business developers, (re)insurers and international standards developers for space operations and orbital debris mitigation. Also, it should appeal to a broader audience among non-specialists in various sectors and the general public. Key features: Brings together interdisciplinary perspectives on the topic in one, cohesive book Chapter contributions from specialists in this interdisciplinary field from around the globe Up-to-date information with the latest developments

Legal Aspects of Space Debris Remediation available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. "With the alarming proliferation in the population of orbital debris, scientific analysis has indicated a need to perform space debris remediation through active removal of debris and on-orbit satellite servicing. This thesis aims to study the implications of the existing framework of international space law and public international law on space debris remediation. Following a description of the hypothesis and the research methodology, the introductory chapter explains the current state of the debris environment and the consequent need to perform space debris remediation. With that understanding, the economic and technological feasibility for such an endeavour is also assessed. The second chapter addresses the concerns regarding the current definition of a 'space object' and examines the requirement for the adoption of a separate legal definition of space debris to facilitate space debris remediation activities. The key question of legitimate exercise of jurisdiction and control over space objects, in the realm of space debris remediation, along with contentious issues such as transfer of ownership and/or registry of space objects are discussed in the third chapter. The fourth chapter elaborates on the related responsibility and liability considerations linked to remediation activities in outer space. The final chapter contains a summary of the important conclusions from the earlier chapters and presents some overall observations on the entire analysis." --

On-Orbit Servicing: Next Generation of Space Activities available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This book shares a range of new and diverse insights on On-Orbit Servicing (OOS), and examines its implications especially from political, legal, economic, and security perspectives. OSS has been evolving rapidly and presents both challenges and opportunities, such as in-space repairs, refuelling, refurbishment of spacecraft and servicing satellites, which could play a critical role in extending satellite lifecycles, while also representing a valuable next step in debris mitigation. At the same time, many legal questions have arisen in connection with OOS: the need to prevent hostile actions under the pretext of OSS; the distinction between governmental and non-governmental OOS operators; the status of re-worked and recycled space objects; the issue of control in terms of operations performed in orbit, i.e., in the international sphere; the status of objects manufactured in orbit and applicable law, including liability and registration; and the impacts on insurance law and risk management. Finally, the book examines the implications of OOS for emerging space actors in the Global South, and recommends a paradigm shift to help developing countries fully recognise the necessity and urgency of being involved in discussions on OSS, as opposed to leaving it up to the developed space actors. This book will be of great interest to practitioners, academics, and students working in the space sector and related fields.

Download and read online ebook Active Debris Removal write by Tyler A. Way. This book was released on 2021. Active Debris Removal available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The proliferation of commercial entrants into the space economy has led to a growing concern about space debris and the danger it poses to satellites and space activities. Active debris removal (ADR) might be one of the tools for remediating existing debris, but such a proposal faces seemingly insurmountable legal challenges in addition to its technical and economic challenges. Permitted and legal ADR does not have to be prohibitively complicated. The legal framework in this paper establishes a method by which the United States can demonstrate its commitment to the remediation of space debris, set up pathfinder missions, and contribute to long-term sustainability of outer space.
