High-Value Supply Chain Integration New research, practical priorities, actionable solutions Master new best practices for integrating demand, supply, and partners worldwide Bridge key “integration gaps” to maximize customer value and profit Improve performance in areas ranging from resource availability to returns From leading supply chain integration experts at the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business In volatile, global environments, only well-integrated organizations can deliver superior customer outcomes and sustained profitability. Supply chain practitioners are on the frontlines of integration: they must bring together functions ranging from sales to logistics and a world of third-party suppliers. Integration is not easy, but proven solutions exist. In Achieving Supply Chain Integration, leading experts reveal what works and how to make it work. The authors and contributors clarify what supply chain integration really means, and why it’s even more crucial than many companies realize. You’ll learn how to manage core conflicts that make integration difficult, so you can maximize value to both customers and your organization. You’ll find example-based, research-driven insights for both internal and external integration, addressing issues ranging from culture to financial metrics. The authors share practical guidance on everything from building more innovative partner relationships to avoiding raw material shortages. Whatever your supply chain or operations responsibilities, you need to integrate more effectively, and this guide will help you do it. Supply chain integration can ensure a smoother, more efficient flow of products, and enable access to third-party resources and capabilities that would be costly or impossible to build internally. However, successful integration has proven challenging, especially as supply chains evolve to encompass even more external partners. Achieving Supply Chain Integration shows how to prioritize which processes and functions to integrate and select integration strategies likely to deliver the greatest performance benefits. Drawing on actual successes and failures, UT’s researchers illuminate best practices and common mistakes. They present proven approaches to integrating sales, marketing, core supply chain functions such as procurement and logistics, and widely diverse partner relationships. Whether you’re a practitioner or student, this guide will help you approach integration projects with “eyes open”–so you can mitigate risks and maximize value. Understanding what integration is and isn’t, and why it matters so much Bridging the integration gap to maximize value creation Fully leveraging information in internal and external integration Driving more value by integrating purchasing and logistics Aligning market, environmental, social, and political strategies Achieving deeper demand/supply integration Reducing product returns through better internal integration Building more innovative, collaborative supplier relationships

This book was released on 2005. An Examination of Boeing's Supply Chain Management Practices Within the Context of the Global Aerospace Industry available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This thesis examines the supply chain management practices of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company within the context of the global aerospace industry. The methodology used for this study includes a study of emerging supply chain management concepts and practices in the aerospace industry based on a review of the open literature, research performed on aerospace supply chain management issues by MIT's Lean Aerospace Initiative, and selected interviews with aerospace industry experts. The results show that there are significant changes in supply chain management practices in the aerospace industry. These changes include restructuring and closer integration of supplier networks to achieve efficiency gains, delegating greater design and production responsibility to major suppliers through strategic supplier partnerships along with having key suppliers evolve greater system and subsystem integration capabilities, emphasizing a lifecycle view supply chain design and management to reduce lifecycle cost of products and systems, and building supply chain capabilities supporting maintenance and aftermarket logistics services as a major new strategic thrust to provide improved customer satisfaction and retain long-term customer loyalty. The thesis focuses on Boeing's supply chain management practices through a case study to explore these developments in a more concrete enterprise context.

The book explains how to emerge and grow as a supply chain leader and details supply chain and procurement processes and operational activities in real-work scenarios across multiple supply chain verticals. The book defines what an entry-level supply chain professional must do to excel in various types of supply chain verticals such as IT, electronics manufacturing, pharmaceutical, retail, and consumer goods. Apart from helping professionals understand vertical specific nuances, this book helps them to set both short-term goals for annual performance review and longer-term career planning. In addition, for a mid- or senior-level supply chain professional, the book offers ideas on ways to launch initiatives and demonstrate leadership to foster career growth. It offers ideas about unlocking new values for the organization and creating a data-driven decision support platform to gain financial efficiency for better management of CapEx and OpEx spend, thus improving the bottom line. The book includes a tool kit which includes operational data models, financial models, and presentation templates for creating and socializing proposals intended for cross-functional teams and demonstrating supply chain leadership. The book is divided into four major parts. In Part I, the book starts with an overview of key concepts in a manufacturing supply chain and procurement organization. It describes current forms of modern global supply chain and corporate procurement organizations. The objective of Part II is to provide a framework for a self-directed supply chain manager to understand how a large organization evaluates the contribution of supply chain managers and where it expects them to create value. To foster career growth as a supply chain professional, the book identifies six key knowledge pillars for demonstrating supply chain mastery: Technical and market knowledge of the end product and its constituents. Knowledge of internal product development and sustaining processes and supporting consumption data. Health and market condition of the supplier. Ability to create value. Ability to build internal and external executive relationships with key influencers. Ability to obtain best cost without compromising on quality and lead time. Negotiating cost, sourcing material, and then the logistics of moving the raw material through multiple stages and finally finished materials across the globe are some of the key areas which need continuous improvement. As a sentinel of efficiency, removing any kind of wastage leads to immediate value creation and contributes to the margin by improving the bottom line. In Part III, the book reviews twelve such verticals namely printer, medical, IT, energy, automotive, cloud, dairy, data management, avionics, biotech, apparel and start up and the supply chain nuances through the lenses of the framework created in Part II. In Part IV, the book goes back to focus on the professional growth of an individual supply chain person in an industry agnostic way. It provides examples of financial and operational efficiencies that a supply chain professional can create.

Supply Chain Vulnerabilities Impacting Commercial Aviation available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Written by Kirsten Koepsel, a lawyer and engineer whose work has focused on aviation cybersecurity, Supply Chain Vulnerabilities Impacting Commercial Aviation addresses the big question facing aircraft manufacturers today: keep the work in house or outsource it? The ongoing battle between cost cutting and supply-chain control is ever more visible as aircraft OEMs have full order books and tight delivery schedules. Since the 1980s, commercial aviation, like many other industries, looked for ways of more economically sourcing parts and services. The new partnerships between OEMs and suppliers at multiple levels, did make the industry nimbler and more ?exible. Yet, it also introduced a higher level of instability, risks and vulnerabilities to the aviation ecosystem. Supply Chain Vulnerabilities Impacting Commercial Aviation discusses the differences in requirements depending on the buyer of the aircraft (governmental or not), ranging from delivery delays to risks linked to cybersecurity and the Internet of Things (IoT), including possible problems with faulty sensors and counterfeit parts. The book also analyses the consequences of not having visibility into lower-tier suppliers, and how prepared they are when it comes to possible disruptions such as earthquakes or political unrest.
