This book was released on 2020. Sustainable Rice Straw Management Using Pyrolysis-Extraction Process Towards Value-Added Products available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Rice straw, one of the main agricultural wastes of north of Iran, was utilized for extraction of two valuable products: high surface area activated carbon (AC) and nano-silica powder. The positive effect of silica extraction from activated rice straw ash on the porosity of resultant AC was determined. It was found that the performance of K 2 CO 3 was better than KOH for producing highly porous AC (2356 m 2 /g) under less severe conditions (relatively low impregnation ratio=1.5). The sensitivity analysis for several operating conditions was carried out, and the optimal conditions to reach the highest surface area, pore volume and silica extraction yield were determined for each chemical agent using Taguchi analysis. Among the factors changed, the highest contributions belonged to the impregnation ratio and activation temperature; therefore, other factors were selected based on economic considerations. The average production yield of activated carbon and silica from raw rice straw in this work was calculated around 9% and 7%, respectively. The average particle size of silica powder was estimated by SEM (around 35 nm) and DLS tests (200-300 nm), and an acceptable BET surface area and pore volume of 250 m 2 /g and 1 cm 3 /g, respectively, were obtained for this product.

This open access book on straw management aims to provide a wide array of options for rice straw management that are potentially more sustainable, environmental, and profitable compared to current practice. The book is authored by expert researchers, engineers and innovators working on a range of straw management options with case studies from Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia. The book is written for engineers and researchers in order to provide them information on current good practice and the gaps and constraints that require further research and innovation. The book is also aimed at extension workers and farmers to help them decide on the best alternative straw management options in their area by presenting both the technological options as well as the value chains and business models required to make them work. The book will also be useful for policy makers, required by public opinion to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, looking for research-based evidence to guide the policies they develop and implement.

Agricultural Waste to Value-Added Products available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This edited book provides a comprehensive review of the current agricultural waste disposal techniques focusing on the ongoing research in the production of various agro waste-derived value-added products. Further topic includes the techno-economic aspects in up-scaling the technology from lab scale to commercial/pilot scale. Sustainable waste management and alternative renewable energy sources are the most important requirements in this era of rapid industrialization and urbanization. Agricultural waste, which is one of the major contributors to overall waste production, has the ability to be an essential source of renewable energy and other valuable products. The ongoing research and technical advancements in agro-waste treatment lead to the efficient conversion of waste into different value-added products. This book is of primary interest to academicians, researchers, scientists and engineers working in the field of agro-residue management, and biomass to bio-energy conversion technologies. Also, the book serves as reading material for students of Environmental Engineering/Civil and Environmental Engineering and Agricultural Engineering. Rural Management authorities, Industrial and Government policy-making agencies may also find it useful read.

Download and read online ebook Sustainable Approaches for Biofuels Production Technologies write by Neha Srivastava. This book was released on 2018-07-19. Sustainable Approaches for Biofuels Production Technologies available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This volume focuses on technological advances relevant to establishing biofuels as a viable alternative to fossil fuels by overcoming current limitations. The progressive depletion of fossil fuels due to their large-scale utilization and their environmental consequences, notably global warming, increase the need for sustainable and cleaner energy options. Renewable biofuels – like biohydrogen, biomethane, biogas, ethanol and butenol – represent attractive energy sources to meet the growing global demand, thanks to sustainable and cost-efficient production approaches based on cellulosic biomass. Currently, the commercialization of these technologies is hindered by technical and economic limitations, such as biomass complexity and pre-treatment, enzyme hydrolysis, production efficiency as well as storage and cost. As such, this book presents economically viable and sustainable approaches to improve existing biofuel technologies and appeals to anyone with an interest in biofuels as renewable energy options and their practical implementation.
