Synthesis and Reactivity of a New Sterically-demanding Bis(thione) Ligand available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The coordination chemistry of the bis(mercaptoimidazolyl)xylenes (BmxR), a family of neutral bis(thione) ligands, has been extended. A novel, sterically-demanding ligand, ortho-bis(2-mercapto-l-tert-butylimidazolyl)xylene (o-BrnxtBu), has been successfully synthesized and characterized. The presence of a rigid xylylene backbone and a bulkier substituent lends an extended directionality and a pronounced steric effect to the ligand system. The coordination chemistry of the ligand system was explored with both transition (Re, Co, Cu, Ag, Au) and main group metals (Cd, Hg, In, Pb, Bi) to assess the mode of binding, reactivity, solubility patterns and the steric effects exerted by the bulky tert-butyl substituent. Xenobiotic heavy metals like Cd(II), Hg(II) and Pb(II) have a high affinity for sulfur rich active sites. They bind strongly with the cysteine and methionine residues found in proteins, thereby disrupting the normal body functions. Coordination chemistry of o-BmxtBu with these heavy metal centers was carried out to understand and assess the exact mechanism of binding of these metals within the body. The data and the structures obtained with o-BrnxtBu will be compared and contrasted, whenever possible, with the bis(mercaptoimidazolyl)methanes BmmR (R = Me, But) and the o-BmxMe ligand.

Download and read online ebook Bis(mercaptoimidazolyl)pyridine write by Ivan Martin Cussianovich. This book was released on 2010. Bis(mercaptoimidazolyl)pyridine available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. A new bis(thione) pincer-type ligand, the 2,6-bis(2-mercapto-3-methyl-imidazolyl)pyridine (2,6-BmpyMe) has been synthesized and fully characterized. This ligand features a [NS2] donor set derived from a pyridine core and two heterocyclic thione functionalities. Reactivity studies of 2,6-BmpyMe towards monovalent coinage metal ions have produced [Cu(BmpyMe)]X (X = CI04, BF4, PF6), [Ag(BmpyMe)]X (X = N03, OTf) and [M(BmpyMe)2]X (M = Cu, Ag; X = CI04, BF4, PF6) complexes. Additional reactivity studies led to the isolation of group 12 metal complexes (BmpyMe)MX2 (M = Cd, Hg; X = CI, Br, I) and main group metal complexes [Pb(BmpyMe)2]X2 (X = CI04, BF4, PF6) and Bi(BmpyMe)X3 (X = CI, Br). The full characterization of these complexes, including NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis, will be described in this thesis. Finally an unexpected crystal structure was obtained for the [Cu2(BmpyMe)3](BF4)2 that features one bridging bis(monodentate) (μ-K2-S,S') BmpyMe ligand and two terminal tridentate (K3-S,N,S') BmpyMe ligands.
