Text Generation and Systemic-functional Linguistics available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Text generation is the processing of information that is stored at a higher level than grammatical structures and lexical items (such as sentences and words), organizing and re-expressing it so that it can appear as a worded text. Of course it interests those working on artificial intelligence, but it should also interest linguists as a linguistic research task.

Systemic Functional Grammar & Natural Language Generation available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This volume deals with the computational application of systemic functional grammar (SFG) for natural language generation. In particular, it describes the implementation of a fragment of the grammar of German in the computational framework of KOMET-PENMAN for multilingual generation. The text also presents a specification of explicit well-formedness constraints on syntagmatic structure which are defined in the form of typed feature structures. It thus achieves a model of systemic functional grammar that unites both the strengths of systemics, such as stratification, functional diversification and the orientation to context, and the kind of syntactic generalizations that are typically found in modern, syntagmatically-focused computational grammars.

This book was released on 1990. From Systemic-Functional Grammar to Systemic-Functional Text Generation: Escalating the Exchange available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The boundaries between planning and realization within generation are a standard division in a natural language processing, although they no longer seem so secure. New territorial divisions appear necessary, but it is still unclear where the borders are best drawn. This report shows that systemic-functional linguistics (SFL) offers a rich body of linguistic work concerned precisely with issues that are coming to the forefront in natural language processing. This work provides theoretically well-motivated and thorough guidance in an area where text planning and generation are still lacking in experience: the treatment of text in context for the purposes of communication and social interaction. Many of the issues raised in text planning are also addressed within the SFL tradition; SFL can provide an extremely detailed and beneficial map of the territory through which we now need to move. Keywords: Computational systemic linguistics, Text generation, Text planning.

Download and read online ebook Systemic Text Generation as Problem Solving write by Terry Patten. This book was released on 1988. Systemic Text Generation as Problem Solving available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. An exploration of a new approach to text generation that interprets systemic grammar as a computational representation. Patten demonstrates that systemic grammar can be easily and automatically translated into current AI-knowledge representations and efficiently processed by the same knowledge-based techniques currently exploited by expert systems. Thus, the fundamental methodological problem of interfacing specialized computational representations with equally specialized linguisticrepresentations can be resolved. The study provides a detailed discussion of the formal model proposed and of a substantial implementation including a relatively large systemic grammar. It represents a fundamental and productive contribution to the literature of text generation.
