The Changing Face of Corporate Defence in the 21st Century available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This paper begins by outlining some of the wide ranging usages of the term quot;corporate defencequot; and the numerous contexts in which it has been applied. It briefly compares the emerging contemporary view of corporate defence to that of quot;National Defencequot;, and poses the question as to whether the corporate world is preparing itself for the adoption of a similar approach to corporate defence. It then highlights the growing recognition of the critical interdependencies and correlations which exist between defence related activities (e.g. Governance, Risk Management, Compliance, Intelligence, Security, Resilience, Controls and Assurance etc) which form the critical components of an organisation's program for self-defence.The paper goes on to firstly consider the functional developments which have been occurring in recent years within these activities. These developments are examined in terms of a functional maturity model which addresses the business impact at each phase of development. The paper then considers the driving forces behind the cross-functional convergence evolution which is also occurring in this space and briefly addresses issues such as Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Unified Security, Risk Intelligence, Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC), Integrated Assurance, Operational Resilience and finally Corporate Defence Management (CDM). The paper outlines the collective requirements which have been identified as a result of these cross-functional developments.

The Changing Face of Warfare in the 21st Century available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This study discusses salient trends demonstrated by contemporary warfare of these first years of the 21st century. The authors reinforce previous notions of Fourth Generation Warfare, but most importantly explore the workings of new components and how these have modified the theory and practice of warfare beyond the basic divisions of conventional and unconventional warfare as witnessed in the preceding century. Throughout history there has been a close interaction between politics, communication and armed conflict and a main line of investigation of this book is to track changes that are presumed to have occurred in the way and manner in which armed conflicts are waged. Using cogent examples drawn variously from conflicts of the Arab Spring, the Islamic State and Russian adventurism in South Ossetia, Crimea and Eastern Ukraine, the authors demonstrate the application of Information Warfare, the practice of Hybrid Warfare, and offensive use of diplomacy, communications, economics and international law to obtain political and military advantages against the status quo states of the international community. The authors combine a theoretical framework with concrete empirical examples in order to create a better understanding and comprehension of the current events and processes that shape the character of contemporary armed conflicts and how they are informed and perceived in a highly mediatised and politicised world.

Security, Strategy and Military Change in the 21st Century available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This edited volume explores and analyses strategic thinking, military reform and adaptation in an era of Asian growth, European austerity and US rebalancing. A significant shift in policy, strategy and military affairs is underway in both Asia and Europe, with the former gaining increasing prominence in the domain of global security. At the same time, the world’s powers are now faced with an array of diverse challenges. The resurgence of great power politics in both Europe and Asia, along with the long term threats of terrorism, piracy and sustained geopolitical instability has placed great strain on militaries and security institutions operating with constrained budgets and wary public support. The volume covers a wide range of case studies, including the transformation of China’s military in the 21st century, the internal and external challenges facing India, Russia’s military modernization program and the USA’s reassessment of its strategic interests. In doing so, the book provides the reader with the opportunity to conceptualize how strategic thinking, military reform, operational adaptation and technological integration have interacted with the challenges outlined above. With contributions by leading scholars and practitioners from Europe and Asia, this book provides a valuable contribution to the understanding of strategic and operational thinking and adjustment across the world. This book will be of much interest to students of military and strategic studies, security studies, defence studies, Asian politics, Russian politics, US foreign policy and IR in general.
