Download and read online ebook The Chemistry and Biochemistry of Nitrogen Fixation write by J. Postgate. This book was released on 2012-12-06. The Chemistry and Biochemistry of Nitrogen Fixation available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Understanding of biological nitrogen fixation has advanced with impressive rapidity during the last decade. As befits a developing area of Science, these advances have uncovered information and raised questions which will have, and indeed have had, repercussions in numerous other branches of science and its applications. This 'information explosion', to use one of to-day's cant idioms, was initiated by the discovery, by a group of scientists working in the Central Research laboratories of Dupont de Nemours, U. S. A. , of a reproducibly active, cell-free enzyme preparation from a nitrogen fixing bacterium. Full credit is due to them. But subsequent developments, albeit sometimes quite as impressive, have too often been marked by that familiar disorder of a developing field of research-the scramble to publish. It is a scramble which, at its best, may represent a laudable desire to inform colleagues of the latest developments; yet which too easily develops into an undignified rush for priority, wherewith to impress one's Board of Directors or Grant-giving Institution. This, in miniature, is the tragedy of scientific research to-day: desire for credit causes research to be published in little bulletins, notes and preliminary communications, so that only those intimately involved in the field really know what is happening (and even they may well not see the forest for the trees). Those outside the field, or working in peripheral areas, may glean something of what is going on from reviews and fragments presented at meetings, but the broad pattern of development is often elusive.

Download and read online ebook The Chemical Biology of Nitrogen write by Christopher T Walsh. This book was released on 2021-05-19. The Chemical Biology of Nitrogen available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. From DNA and RNA to proteins and vitamins the role of nitrogen is central in organismal metabolism. The Chemical Biology of Nitrogen comprehensively examines how the chemistry available to both inorganic and organic nitrogen compounds both enable and conditions the vast array of nitrogen biologies. This book provides a chemocentric approach to both the inorganic and organic chemical biology of nitrogen. Following an introduction to nitrogen trivalency the book progresses through the logic of inorganic nitrogen metabolism and organic nitrogen metabolites to nitrogen proteomics with an integrative approach to understanding the role of nitrogen in its many biologic roles. Authored by a renowned scientist and educator, this book is ideal for researchers in chemical biology and nitrogen metabolism and will be of particular interest to advanced students and postgraduates in biochemistry and chemical biology.

Download and read online ebook Biology of the Nitrogen Cycle write by Hermann Bothe. This book was released on 2006-12-08. Biology of the Nitrogen Cycle available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. All organisms require nitrogen to live and grow. The movement of nitrogen between the atmosphere, biosphere, and geosphere in different forms is described by the nitrogen cycle. This book is an activity of the COST 856 Action on Denitrification. It covers all aspects of the N-cycle: chemistry, biology (enzymology, molecular biology), physics, applied aspects (greenhouse effect, N-pollution problems, practices in farming, in waste-water treatment, and more). In this book, leading editors offer the latest research available on dentrification (reduction of nitrates or nitrites commonly by bacteria- as in soil). * Provides details on denitrification and its general role in the environment * Offers latest research in N-Cycle and its reactions * Discusses impacts on various environments: agriculture, wetlands, plants, waste-water treatment and more * The only book available in the field since the last 20 years * Contains 27 chapters written by internationally highly recognized experts in the field * Covers all modern aspects, emphasizes molecular biology and ecology * Written in an easily understandable way
