An estimated million hogs were 0h farms on January I, 1995. This was a reduction of 28 percent from the record.pumber at the beginning of 1999, a percentage decrease exceeded only in the drought year i93u. The marked reduction in numbers January 1 followed a329 percent decrease in the total number of pigs saved in 19th, compared with l9u3, The spring pig cr0p of 1999 totaled 55.million head, 25 percent 1ess than the record 1993 cr>p of million head.
