This book, now in its fourth edition, is a well-known classic on the ultrafast nonlinear and linear processes responsible for supercontinuum generation. The book begins with chapters reviewing the experimental and theoretical understanding of the field along with key applications developed since the discovery of the supercontinuum effect. The chapters that follow cover recent research activity on supercontinuum phenomena, novel applications, and advances achieved since the publication of the previous edition. The new chapters focus on: filamentation in gases, air, and condensed media; conical emission by four-wave mixing and X-waves; electronic self-phase mechanism; higher harmonics generation; attosecond laser pulses; complex vector beam supercontinuum; higher order self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation; nonlinear supercontinuum interference in uniaxial crystals; new nonlinear microscopes involving supercontinuum and ultrafast lasers with biomedical applications; and other current supercontinuum applications in communications. The Supercontinuum Laser Source is a definitive work by one of the discoverers of the white light effect. It is indispensable reading for any researcher or student working in the field of ultrafast laser physics. Nonlinear optics is one of the most important fields of science and engineering, covering the generation, transmission, and control of the whole spectrum of laser pulses in solids, liquids, gases, and fibers. In turn, one of the most important ultrafast nonlinear optical processes is the supercontinuum generation - the production of intense ultrafast broadband "white light" pulses. This book is intended to fill the need of both scientists and graduate students for a single source book containing the most necessary and relevant material on supercontinuum technology. It reviews the basic principles, surveys research results, and presents the current thinking of experts in the supercontinuum field.

Ultra Wideband CW Pumped Optical Supercontinuum Source available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Optical supercontinuum (OSC) laser source is a new generation wideband laser which has various commercial applications such as telecommunication, biomedicine, and optical sensing systems. However the high costs of current OSC laser sources generally have impeded them to be used more widely. In this thesis, we demonstrated a low-cost OSC laser source based on a continuum wave (CW) pumped Erbium/Ytterbium co-doped fiber (EYCDF) ring cavity with a 1.2 km highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF). This OSC laser source has 350nm spectral coverage, from 1550nm to 1900nm in wavelength. This is the first CW pumped OSC that generates continuum spectrum above 1750nm. The wide spectral coverage in the long wavelength range allows more advanced utilization of OSC sources. In this thesis, the evolution mechanism of the CW pumped OSC is discussed. The analysis of the results shows that self-phase modulation (SPM), and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) dominate the evolution of OSC. Therefore, the evolution pattern is different to those of previous CW pumped OSCs where the modulation instability (MI) and SRS effects, or purely SRS effect dominate OSC generation. In addition, the experimental results suggest that the OSC generated by this evolution pattern has high flatness, which is caused by two reasons. Firstly, the intense SRS effect suppresses the MI effect, which could induce spectral vibration. Secondly, SPM induced spectrum broadening produce a smooth spectrum. The intense SPM and SRS effect are benefited from the ring-cavity structure which effectively increases the effective length of nonlinear fiber. Keyword. Download and read online ebook Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy write by Ji-Xin Cheng. This book was released on 2021-12-04. Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy: Techniques and Applications describes innovations in instrumentation, data science, chemical probe development, and various applications enabled by a state-of-the-art stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscope. Beginning by introducing the history of SRS, this book is composed of seven parts in depth including instrumentation strategies that have pushed the physical limits of SRS microscopy, vibrational probes (which increased the SRS imaging functionality), data science methods, and recent efforts in miniaturization. This rapidly growing field needs a comprehensive resource that brings together the current knowledge on the topic, and this book does just that. Researchers who need to know the requirements for all aspects of the instrumentation as well as the requirements of different imaging applications (such as different types of biological tissue) will benefit enormously from the examples of successful demonstrations of SRS imaging in the book. Led by Editor-in-Chief Ji-Xin Cheng, a pioneer in coherent Raman scattering microscopy, the editorial team has brought together various experts on each aspect of SRS imaging from around the world to provide an authoritative guide to this increasingly important imaging technique. This book is a comprehensive reference for researchers, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and engineers. - Includes every aspect from theoretic reviews of SRS spectroscopy to innovations in instrumentation and current applications of SRS microscopy - Provides copious visual elements that illustrate key information, such as SRS images of various biological samples and instrument diagrams and schematics - Edited by leading experts of SRS microscopy, with each chapter written by experts in their given topics
