'This textbook is clearly a valuable resource for engineering students or anyone who wants to learn about wireless communication since it provides the technical fundamentals of the key theories and methods used for IoT communication … If you are interested in learning about the technical details of IoT and wireless communication, then this very well-written book, loaded with the fundamentals for understanding this rapidly growing system of the future, is well-worth reading.'IEEE Electrical Insulation MagazineThis textbook metamorphosed from notes that the author has been using to teach at four universities in Australia and New Zealand. The book treats the physical principles and design of wireless Internet of Things (IoT) systems from engineering perspective. IoT enables communication between people, between people and things, and between things. The book highlights the wide scope of sensors used in IoT - including RFIDs, smart mobile phones, home consumer devices, autonomous cars, utility meters, car park meters, robots, satellites, radars and wireless positioning systems. Three features render the book practically accessible. First, each chapter is organised in sections, each of which ends with a set of authentic review questions to motivate reflection. This is complemented by numerous worked examples in each section. Third, the book introduces two popular industry software packages for hands-on practice — MATLAB® and CelPlanner™. With the growing popularity of softwarisation and cloudification, possessing expertise in these packages makes one useful to the industry. Parts of this book are taught in undergraduate curriculum, while the rest is taught in graduate courses. Both traditional and modern topics including C-RAN, network slicing, NFV, NB-IoT and 5G use cases in IoT are covered.Instructor's resources are provided for free to instructors who adopt the book as textbook for a unit/ course/subject/paper. Internet of Things Security: Principles and Practice available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Over the past few years, Internet of Things has brought great changes to the world. Reports show that, the number of IoT devices is expected to reach 10 billion units within the next three years. The number will continue to rise and wildly use as infrastructure and housewares with each passing day, Therefore, ensuring the safe and stable operation of IoT devices has become more important for IoT manufacturers. Generally, four key aspects are involved in security risks when users use typical IoT products such as routers, smart speakers, and in-car entertainment systems, which are cloud, terminal, mobile device applications, and communication data. Security issues concerning any of the four may lead to the leakage of user sensitive data. Another problem is that most IoT devices are upgraded less frequently, which leads it is difficult to resolve legacy security risks in short term. In order to cope with such complex security risks,Security Companies in China, such as Qihoo 360, Xiaomi, Alibaba and Tencent, and companies in United States, e.g. Amazon, Google, Microsoft and some other companies have invested in security teams to conduct research and analyses, the findings they shared let the public become more aware of IoT device security-related risks. Currently, many IoT product suppliers have begun hiring equipment evaluation services and purchasing security protection products. As a direct participant in the IoT ecological security research project, I would like to introduce the book to anyone who is a beginner that is willing to start the IoT journey, practitioners in the IoT ecosystem, and practitioners in the security industry. This book provides beginners with key theories and methods for IoT device penetration testing; explains various tools and techniques for hardware, firmware and wireless protocol analysis; and explains how to design a secure IoT device system, while providing relevant code details.

Principles and Practices of the Internet of Things available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Internet of things (IoT) is a network of interconnected devices which are embedded with sensors and software. Each device has a unique identifier. These devices are capable of sharing data with each other across networks without the need of human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. IoT devices can share data over both wired and wireless connections. Some of the wireless technologies which are used widely are Bluetooth, near field communication, radio frequency identification and light fidelity systems. Common examples of IoT devices include wearable health monitors, smart home systems, biometric scanners, etc. Internet of things finds application in various fields such as manufacturing, agriculture, energy management, transportation and healthcare. This book includes some of the vital pieces of work being conducted across the world, on various topics related to internet of things. The various studies that are constantly contributing towards advancing technologies and evolution of this field are examined in detail. As this field is emerging at a fast pace, this book will help the readers to better understand the concepts of internet of things.

Provides a detailed analysis of the standards and technologies enabling applications for the wireless Internet of Things The Wireless Internet of Things: A Guide to the Lower Layers presents a practitioner’s perspective toward the Internet of Things (IoT) focusing on over-the-air interfaces used by applications such as home automation, sensor networks, smart grid, and healthcare. The author—a noted expert in the field—examines IoT as a protocol-stack detailing the physical layer of the wireless links, as both a radio and a modem, and the media access control (MAC) that enables communication in congested bands. Focusing on low-power wireless personal area networks (WPANs) the text outlines the physical and MAC layer standards used by ZigBee, Bluetooth LE, Z-Wave, and Thread. The text deconstructs these standards and provides background including relevant communication theory, modulation schemes, and access methods. The author includes a discussion on Wi-Fi and gateways, and explores their role in IoT. He introduces radio topologies used in software-defined radio implementations for the WPANs. The book also discusses channel modelling and link budget analysis for WPANs in IoT. This important text: Introduces IEEE 802.15.4, ITU-T G.9959, and Bluetooth LE as physical layer technology standards enabling wireless IoT Takes a layered approach in order to cultivate an appreciation for the various standards that enable interoperability Provides clarity on wireless standards with particular focus on actual implementation Written for IoT application and platform developers as well as digital signal processing, network, and wireless communication engineers; The Wireless Internet of Things: A Guide to the Lower Layersoffers an inclusive overview of the complex field of wireless IoT, exploring its beneficial applications that are proliferating in a variety of industries.
