Nod
By Adrian Barnes
Publisher: Titan Books
ISBN13: 9781783298228
Pages: 261
Genre: Science Fiction/Dystopian

Synopsis:

Dawn breaks over Vancouver and no one in the world has slept the night before, or almost no one. A few people, perhaps one in ten thousand, can still sleep, and they’ve all shared the same golden dream.

After six days of absolute sleep deprivation, psychosis will set in. After four weeks, the body will die. In the interim, panic ensues and a bizarre new world arises in which those previously on the fringes of society take the lead.

Paul, a writer, continues to sleep while his partner Tanya disintegrates before his eyes, and the new world swallows the old one whole.

I am cheating again this week and featuring a not so random addition that I added after a trip to B&N on Saturday. I discovered this tucked within one of the fantasy shelves and was instantly smitten on the blurb. Needles to say, I brought it home and plan on starting it within the next month. Have you read Nod? What are your thoughts on this one?

Sister Sable (The Mad Queen Book 1)
By T. Mountebank
Publisher: Mountebank
ASIN: B0135HUFPY
Pages: 361
Genre: Fantasy

Blurb:

THE FIRST TENET OF THE WIND: Do not get caught.

Sister Sable has lived by the first tenet for seven years, but when an unexpected accident reveals the runaway nun to the clergy, she is forced to embrace the remaining four.

THE SECOND TENET OF THE WIND: Win by any means.

With the King’s spymaster committed to killing her, and his general regretting he didn’t, Sable enters a deadly game.

THE THIRD TENET OF THE WIND: The purpose of picking up a blade is to cut the enemy.

Scaring them is discretionary.

THE FOURTH TENET OF THE WIND: Have no preferred weapon.

Even so, she likes the axe.

THE FIFTH TENET OF THE WIND: Know the way of all professions.

Prophet, pilot, assassin, spy, Sable will need to call upon all she has learned to protect the King’s future from the past.

Sister Sable was a Goodreads discovery that appeared in my feed while browsing through popular fantasy. The synopsis has definitely drawn my interest. While I am sure it will be a while before I decide to tackle this book or series, it definitely sounds promising. Have you read this book or any titles from T. Mountebank? What is on your TBR this week?
